2020 Books. â From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout
âYou are so incredibly violent.â He dipped his chin and whispered, âIt still turns me on.â
A scream of fury tore out of me as I jabbed my elbow out and up, snapping Hawkeâs head back. âDammit,â he said, coughingâno, laughing. He was laughing. âDidnât change what I just said.â

Iâve got seven words for you: sarah j maas but make it s p i c y
I canât really explain to you why these books have literally kept me until 4 am. I mean, as expected, high fantasy will grab my attention like a moth to a flame, and miss armentrout very much caught my attention.Â
The first book opens with our main character, Poppy in the midst of doing something sheâs not supposed to. Already, we get little insight on our girl: she likes to have test the limits and boy does that carry throughout the series. By the time we meet Hawke, we already know: a charming, dark badboy with a smirk (this is not surprising because he has the internet in a panty-twisting frenzy--well-deserved I might add). Their banter was... cute. Juvenile, but cute.
The one (or couple) things I donât like about the book is that it really, truly is like a Sarah j Maas book. Now, considering I have read both books in one night sittings each, Iâm not complaining but it did make it kind of predictable. I wonât say just how, but expect an almost play-by-play of what happens in any one of Sarah j Maasâ series.Â
I would also like to add that I found the characters to be a little on the flat side. Their motivations and desires and goals were either not discussed or felt short and donât even get me started on book two. I just felt like every single character wanted something but just not... enough. And thatâs very disappointing. As well as the second book, I read the back cover and I was so excited to learn more about the realms and the worldâs and the histories and other characters and the interactions between other characters when all I really got was; Poppy versus person 1, Poppy against this group and these oppositions were used to explain history.Â
In all, Iâm excited for book 3 because itâs still a story that falls right in line with the kinds of books that I like, but Iâm hoping for less impromptu âlovemakingâ scenes (to keep it PG) and more action.Â
Show me what youâve got Jennifer L. Armentrout!Â
