The social media behemoth is about to face off with the tax agency in a rare trial to capture billions that the IRS thinks Facebook owes. But onerous budget cuts have hamstrung the agency’s ability to bring the case.
Based on her time at Google, Sandberg soon decided that one area where Facebook was behind its peers was in its tax dodging. “My experience is that by not having a European center and running everything through the US, it is very costly in terms of taxes,” she wrote other executives in an April 2008 email, which hasn’t been previously reported. Facebook’s head of tax agreed, replying that the company needed to find “a low taxed jurisdiction to park profits.”

The Vignellis partnered with the glass artist on a many projects over the years. In 1997, Massimo Vignelli designed a thick retrospective catalog on Chihuly's work. In 1999, Massimo faxed Chihuly about commissioning a piece for over the fireplace at the Vignellis home. He even sketched it in place. He imagined a piece made of a "Medusa" of snakes like Chihuly installed in Venice in 1996. Sadly, it seems the art commission never happened.

Sometimes designers must unite and stand up for good design, even if that means standing up to @nasa! In 1992, NASA was planning to change their graphic identity created by Dunne & Blackburn after 17 years. AIGA heard and put out a call to action!
Massimo Vignelli wrote a letter saying "The NASA program is part of our culture, and should be protected, not discarded." Here you can read the faxed conversation with the AIGA Board of Directors, which included Massimo. And a powerful letter from Caroline Hightower, AIGA executive director 1977-1995.
