don't apologize for barging into that post at all, i want to reblog your addition and will WHEN TUMBLR WORKS FOR ME AGAIN FFS. I actually remembered liking that episode a lot - because I didn't remember the beginning of it at all. I think the writers had some shit going on in their perspective towards Logan, which also showed up in regards to how much they kept banking towards 'fulfilment and personhood will only culminate with Walking!!' that episode did him an acute disservice
Oh, thanks! I don’t usually add commentary to posts that aren’t in the tags, but Haven is such a touchy episode with me I really just can’t shut up about it.
Knowing that season 1 as a whole respected, or at least made a concerted effort to respect, Logan and Max’s agency and to present them as equals (with varying degrees of success), I can usually find something to enjoy in Dark Angel’s problematic scenes. Watching Haven though I kind of end up actively reading against the text to make my own fun. Also wheelchair combat with pool sticks is a good distraction.
That said, I will never stop feeling so bad for Max in that episode because she honestly just wants to have a nice, normal vacation with him and even when they’re fighting she’s still trying to figure out how to navigate it and make up so they can have a good time but HE WON’T STOP TRYING TO PLAY BATMAN AND JUST TELL HER WHAT’S GOING ON.
And, yeah, I definitely agree that the writers had some weird ideas about how Logan’s number one goal at all times needed to be getting ‘cured’ of his disability, that it was somehow standing in the way of he and Max getting together, or that slipping back in terms of his recovery was something he should feel ashamed of and lash out at Max over. Not that that last one isn’t a legitimate feeling that many people have, but it certainly could’ve been handled better.
