Cassandra's fears had had time to settle, and so they settled into guilt. She felt bad for leaving her to deal with the Duke herself, just after she had promised to be there for her; but more importantly, she felt bad for having made Rapunzel prefer that. She'd been turning the words over and over in her head, trying to figure out what in specific made her snap, and every option she came up with just caused the knot inside her to tighten. She never should have said what she did.
Apologizing, being vulnerable, it wasn't Cassandra's strong suit, but she had to keep reminding herself it was worth it. Rapunzel was worth it, and she deserved it, too. "Rapunzel?" Cassandra sought out her best friend's expression as she entered, hoping she'd find the strength in there. "I wanna apologize."
Taking a seat near her, Cassandra took a deep breath and stared at her hands. "I... I really care about you, Raps. A lot. You're not just the princess, you're my best friend, you mean the world to me, and— I just don't want to see you get hurt or taken advantage of." She bit her lip. That was the explanation... now for the apology part.
"But you were right. I was out of line. As much as Eugene and I... have our differences..." Her tone was delicate, afraid of worsening the tension. "...I know he loves you. And I never should have suggested otherwise." It was just her paranoia talking, along with some other feelings she wasn't ready to process just yet. "So... can you forgive me?"
