alright, she deserves the warning for her cheek. there’s no question of who knows the most of the ways of the galaxy between them, even if master jinn speaks to her mostly in her head. unfortunately, his otherwise welcome presence in her mind also means he can sense the flow of her thoughts -- and the flow isn’t exactly kind or charitable.

𝐢. qui-gon sin

a chance to explore a young qui-gon? like, really young? like padawan-apprentice years young? maybe freshly knighted? him at an impressionable age, is what i'm getting at. because qui-gon is so unusual in that he absolutely takes the jedi laws with a pound of salt and does bend knee to them. so seeing that penchant, but in an unrefined way? especially, he could potentially meet a dark sider.

not a sith, but a simple dark side adept. i wouldn't come up with anything totally brand new cause i think something in between what i have for ren's tcw verse and his old republic verse would work ( aka kylo ren is in service to a sith-lord-so-caught-between-alive-and-undead-that-he's-a-planet who is several thousand years old and has been manipulating the ren family for an unseemly about of generations, maybe he's still a "jedi killer" ). it's an interesting thought to see his reaction to someone wielding the dark side when he's not tempered by age and experience. he may've always been an outside of the box sort of thinker, but being young means being dumb.

and of course ─── since i'm damn predictable and a sucker for this shit ─── put them in a situation where they have to rely on each other. those plotlines never get old for me honestly and it just leads to such dilemmas 'cause here's this jedi at the beginning of his journey and is now struggling to stay alive. and what's helping keep him alive? the dark side. and this dark side adept who hates the order and all they stand for is equally vulnerable.

𝐢𝐢. not all the jedi were apathetic

hi, yes, hello, i am a bitter bitch that not a single jedi that we know of appeared to ben solo after he let in a little more light. he got nothing, not even someone peering over the ledge like "c'mon, dumbass, stop fucking around and come help." while i'm betting leia was battle-meditating from systems away ( why her body didn't disappear until her son did ), what if she wasn't the only one offering encouragement. what if the jedi who saw anakin's potential and witnessed lifetimes of heartache without the ability to intervene?

and then from there: talks in the afterlife? because ben is stuck, that's why he didn't force ghost. that's the only LOGICAL explanation. because he found to much solace in the dark, found himself there, defined himself by his control over it. but he never consumed by it hence his lack of dark sider eyes. plus, i got a feeling the reason leia died was no projecting herself across star systems. ain't no way that's gonna take down leia organa. the only thing that's gonna take her down is herself and so, how much you wanna bet she fed her life force into her son as he gave his to rey?

she's not letting her son get out of the consequences of his actions that easy...nor is she going to let her son die anyway. she brought him into this world, she gets to decide when he gets taken out.

and on that tangent, imagine then ben meeting qui-gon. who, following the idea from earlier, was the only jedi to approach ben solo as he came to rey's aid. what would he have to say? what would ben say back? let the dramatic fanfare begin.

𝐢𝐢𝐢. a very smol plot

not even a plot, more like potential because the books haven't even been released yet. but high republic? i've aggressively become a chia pet of ideas because hell yes. i don't even think benlo would be a sith in this verse. rule of two and whatnot and i'm sure that role is taken. so he's probably part of the nihils ( darth nihilus vibes intensify ) and, while a dark side adept, is more like an evil han solo.

there's an distinctly angry set to her jaw when she glances up at qui-gon. 

        “does everyone i know have to constantly be in my head?” 

of all people, qui-gon doesn’t deserve this, not from her. there’s only warning in his voice and not the derision she constantly fears she will hear, but she can’t help tripping over the the anxiety of the what if. luke had done her no favors and she’s sick to death of people leaving or saying things that make her think they will.

after all, that’s always been the root of the black terror residing in the deepest recesses of her mind: that people will see into her so far they will find something that she’s missed and withdraw. something that will convince them that she’s not enough, that not matter her efforts all she is will eventually leave them wanting. even someone that came to her in the darkness of the void, when she was reduced to a whisper of consciousness by a greedy enemy. even the tranquil yet powerful jedi master who the force dropped unceremoniously into her orbit.

        SATINE  STARES  OUT  OVER  THE  CITY,    gaze  drifting  over  ruined  transparisteel  buildings.    they  were  rebuilding,    already  wiping  evidence  of  the  civil  wars’  destruction  from  the  new  capital,    but  the  scars  will  linger  far  longer  than  it  will  take  to  construct  new  architecture.        her  city,    her  people.        she  had  been  born  to  lead,    but  never  had  she  expected  the  weight  to  be  so  enormous    —    all  of  mandalore  was  far  more  than  just  house  kryze  and  its  allied  clans,    far  more  than  she  had  been  prepared  for.    but  she  will  not  shrink  from  the  task,    she  will  bring  mandalore  into  a  new  era  of  peace  and  prosperity,    breaking  the  cycle  of  endless  violence,    if  it  takes  every  ounce  of  her  considerable  will.

        she  has  convinced  weary  clan  warlords,    warriors  as  traditional  as  her  parents,    to  join  her  cause,    has  brought  a  peaceful  end  to  a  conflict  that  started  before  she  was  even  born.    she  can  handle  the  task  of  picking  up  the  pieces,    she  must.    still,    it  does  her  good  to  hear  her  protector’s  confidence  in  her  ability.    she’s  grown  quite  fond  of  the  wise  jedi  over  the  past  year,    and  she  holds  his  opinion  in  high  regard.

        “    perhaps  it  is.    ”        but  destiny  is  an  ambiguous  thing,    isn’t  it?        she  stands  here  beside  a  jedi  in  the  finery  of  a  duchess,    but  inside  she  still  feels  like  a  frightened  girl,    too  thin  and  haunted  by  a  year  spent  running  for  her  life,    by  a  childhood  full  of  death  and  war.    but  the  new  mandalorians  have  seen  something  in  her  beyond  the  girl  struggling  to  break  free  of  her  fathers’  shadow,    as  have  her  protectors,    and  she  intends  to  rise  to  their  expectations.    for  mandalore.    for  herself.

        chin  tilts  upwards,    confident,    and  she  meets  the  older  man’s  gaze,    eyes  sparkling  as  her  lips  pull  in  a  gentle  smile.        oh,    she’ll  be  sad  to  see  him  go.        “    your  faith  in  me  is  appreciated,    master  jinn    ”

✴ ✧ ✴  𝐀 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐃𝐈𝐃𝐍'𝐓 𝐀𝐒𝐊 𝐅𝐎𝐑 : @fatekilled​

𝐓𝐈𝐑𝐄𝐃  𝐆𝐀𝐙𝐄  drifts  to  his  lightsaber,  eyeing  with  both  curiosity  and  wariness.  realizing  she’s  being  far  from  subtle  in  her  interest,  a  pale  flush  creeps  up  lightly  freckled  cheeks  and  satine  ducks  her  head  briefly.  “sorry,  i-,”  nose  scrunches  in  frustration  at  her  stammering,  an  audible  sigh  before  she  pauses  and  tries  anew,  “for  all  that  i’ve  heard  about  the  weapons  of  your  order,  for  all  the  pride  my  ancestors  took  in  thwarting  them,  i’ve  not  seen  one  up  close  before.”

        “there’s so much more to it that i don’t know.” 

she speaks, of course, of the force. from the age of eight she could tell there was something in her that would not let her wither away in the desert or dry up from loneliness. more than hope, more than stubbornness, more than love for a family she swore would come back, there was a hollow inside her where something intangible swirled, keeping her upright and moving forward like a gyroscope. over time she questioned it less and less, accepting that part of her was alive in a way the rest of her wasn’t. she’d never had context for it before. 

then in a matter of days that alien part of her had become the most important, most sought after piece of a puzzle that the resistance was hunting down; a piece she shared with the legend that was luke skywalker. it was all very confusing. that gyroscope that kept her level even at the most dizzying heights was spinning off its axis now, pulled in too many directions. 

qui gon’s eyes are kind; she’s come to know them well as he’s visited her in her dreams and thougts. he will not lie to her. but everything rey thought she knew, about herself and her place in the galaxy, feels distorted. plus the wound of severing a connection that was supposed to bring understanding and some semblance of balance is still fresh and sore. for all she’s told, she still FEELS alone.
