it's funny how higashide's romances are all like "what if a man and woman loved each other" while nasu's romances are like "what if a man and a woman loved each other because they were both extremely fucked up and couldn't operate in human society"

Finishing fate stay night prologue I have feelings
im still SO fucking mad that Fate got me like it did. like i was expecting a paper-thin anime designed for pure horniness, but instead we got:
-a deep critique of magic, especially magic that’s hereditary and kept within certain families, because OF COURSE magic that works that way would lead to eugenics, familial abuse, and a deep contempt for anyone whos not part of the (rich, privileged) magic families
-a shockingly nuanced portrayal of an abuse victim who is treated with empathy by the narrative when she finally gains the power and courage to push back against her abusers. Not only are her reactions realistic and messy (lashing out at her friends for ignoring her abuse because it was convenient for them, reveling in the newfound power she holds over those around her, etc), BUT she’s never treated as irredeemable, even when her actions hurt and kill innocent people around her. her abusers don’t get ANY sympathy from the narrative, and when she kills them, it’s not seen as worrying because they deserve to live, but because crossing that line contributes to her false self-perception of herself as Evil and Irredeemable; her story ends with her being accepted and loved by her friends as the messy, traumatized person she is, with them committing to help her heal and grow.
-in general, themes that explicitly critique cold utilitarianism, broad and impersonal ideological statements, and the Greater Good in favor of focusing on helping the people around you who need help; it’s not a coincidence that the last route is about the main character explicitly giving up his naive ideologies of saving Literally Everyone in favor of helping his abused friend. If FSN has one theme, it’s that making the world better begins with reaching out to the people around you who are suffering, and helping them in the most mundane ways
"one day ill forgive him for being zhu ge liang and then ill be able to love him" simk for someone who doesnt love him youve been reblogging a lot of waver posts lately
im really torn between loving zhu ge liang and being absolutely fucking furious that zhu ge liang is currently being hosted by a hot looking but incredibly lame NEET who marinates in his ostentatious living room playing video games all day at 30 years old, and who ALSO looked like a moe anime girl when he was 20-fucking-however-much in fate zero. DO YOU SEE MY CONFLICT HERE? MY STRUGGLE? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW INCANDESCENTLY FURIOUS I WAS WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT ZHU GE LIANG, THE FAMOUS STRATEGIST WHO I GREW UP HEARING STORIES ABOUT AND WHO I ADMIRED WITH ALL MY HEART, WAS *THIS GUY?*
HIM? THIS GUY? THIS FUCKING GUY?
AND THEN HE HAD THE AUDACITY TO BE A FANDOM FAVORITE, AND EVEN MORE THAN THAT PEOPLE HAD THE AUDACITY TO MAKE GOOD CONTENT OF HIM AND NOW IM REBLOGGING IT. unbelievable. i have to live like this.
It’s really interesting how we catch on that Sakura’s massive guilt and self-punishment is reflective of Saber’s own sense of guilt and that’s why I think their mutual transitions to “Alter” forms are all the more important to look at in the context of “denying yourself punishment and allowing yourself to become the monster you want to be after suffering for so long”
