Thesis Project Update!
Hello everyone! It's been a bit since I updated this account but I've been hard at work with this project, starting to write and getting this thesis done! All in all I conducted 10 interviews with fat young folks from all over the US (mostly CA but also on the East Coast/in the Mid-West) and I'm in the process of writing (meaning the hardest parts of transcribing and coding are over!).
I want to thank everyone again who helped out with spreading the word about my project, as well as all of the amazing people who participated and showed interest. I've decided to change the name of my thesis to Fat Young Adults of Color on Sex, the Internet, and Community, currently dropping the Fat Disidentifications title. However, as I continue to explore the realm of Fat Studies and get more involved personally in critical fat activism, I will be thinking of and hopefully conducting more research, and possible creating a separate Fat Disidentifications project. Time will tell, of course, and I'm excited for the future.
I also want to pay my respects to the scholar who greatly inspired my thesis work so far (and from whom I've borrowed the term "disidentification"), José Esteban Muñoz, who passed away nearly four months ago. I wouldn't be so interested in queer theory/q.o.c. critique if it hadn't been for his work and I feel that his work will continue to be influential to my work for years to come. Rest in power, José.
I will try to update this again once my thesis is done, and I will be posting my thesis "defense" presentation once it's complete. For those interested in the results of this whole thing, I'll be glad to share them!
Thanks again to everyone!
