i think about the generational difference in how people respond to “thank you” a lot.

#marzi speaks #older generations are more likely to give a variation of ‘you’re welcome’#whereas younger generations tend to prefer ‘no problem’ or ‘of course’#it’s a really subtle thing but i think it says a lot about how respect works among different generations #in older generations helping each other is an obligation (to an extent.) people are Welcome to rely on each other #in younger generations we feel as though nobody is Obligated to help us #which is why when we hear ‘thank you’ we make sure to tell them it wasn’t a problem for us to accomodate them #or we use ‘of course’ to mean ‘i don’t mind helping you’#fascinates me
