Homunculus Nebula. Located about 7,500 light years from earth. This feature was formed by a massive gas ejection from the star Eta Carinae dubbed 'The Great Eruption'. Which was observed on Earth between 1838-1845. How incredibly awesome it would have been to witness and record such an event. At the time, this event resulted in Eta Carinae becoming the second brightest star in the sky after Sirius. This near supernova explosion produced two polar lobes (known as a bipolar nebula), and a large but thin disk, all moving outward at up to 670 km/s!!
