enter dennis whitaker, who escapes his homophobic family and goes around, looking to get a job helping anyone he can. he's strong, good with animals, and a good handyman. he knocks on jack's door and gives his whole spiel about how he's good at a lot of things, he can mow the lawn, water crops, feed animals, anything.

jack declines at first, but he gives dennis a second look and the ache in his leg throbs. he sighs and nods, "alright, kid, but you're livin' by my rules. you get up when i tell you to, you do what i say, alright?" he had murmured, opening the door further to let the younger man inside his home.
