you woke up to the sun hitting your face. you never felt so tired in your life, but you had to get up for today was you and your boyfriend’s anniversary.    this will be the fifth year you guys have dated and today, you wanted it to be special. regardless of how tired you were, you got up. you reached into your closet and found the outfit you had picked out weeks (months actually) ago. fancy. 

quickly, you walked to the shower and took a quick shower. you looked at the digital clock on your nightstand that read 12:37 p.m. 

after you were done with that, you pulled out the list of things that needed to be done in order to make this anniversary a great one. 

you slid on your outfit, along with your shoes and jacket and you were out the door. but before you could even make it to the elevator to your apartment building, your phone began to ring. it was jin. 

“hey babe! happy anniversary!” you said the same back. smiling. 

jin started to ask you the normal questions like ‘how are you?’ and ‘what are you doing?’ but then he said, “i also will be late tonight. work is busy. is that alright?” you pouted in disappointment, but then you realized how stressful it can be being a business man. “yes! it’s alright baby. don’t work yourself to hard okay?” 

“okay. i love you.” he said. “i love you too!” you hung up and went back to your plans. 

hours later, you set up the dining room table with rose pedals, candles, plates, silverware, etc. food had been prepared a little late since jin was going to be late anyway. he had always cooked for you when you got back from work, but not this time. you weren’t an expert and that was okay because you sure damn tried your best. you checked the clock on the wall. 9:55 p.m. 

‘he should be home soon.’ excitement had been flowing through you all day. so excited that you might just die. you sat at the table, thinking about how tonight will run...

10 minutes pass. 

30 minutes pass. 

an hour passes. 

your eyes began to slowly shut. you knew you had to stay up, but it was hard...to hard...got..t...

“hey...baby..yah. wake up!” you wake up to see jin hovering over you. you got up and stretched. again, you looked at the time. 12:12 a.m. “hi jin. happy anniversary baby.” you said in a soft tone. “i made you dinner!” you got up. 

“babe...” 

“it’s roast. it’s probably cold now, but i can re-heat it.” 

“hey..” 

“here. i just have to turn on the--” 

“hey!” 

jin grabbed your shoulders softly. your eyes shot wide. he then kissed you with his plump lips. “it’s alright. you’re tired. hell, i’m tired. maybe we should go to bed . okay?” you looked into his eyes, but then look away. you sighed and took a step away. “but, our anniversary...i wanted it to be special. i mean, we have been together for so long. i-i wish...” tears started to form, “...that i wasn’t this exhausted..and maybe we could do more stuff...” jin looked into your eyes before pulling you into a hug. his arms enveloping you. 

“pfft-ha ha!” he started to laugh. you were in shock. what was so funny? “uh...jin?” his laughter began to die down. “it’s just that you..ha..prepared so much and within a few hours and you were exhausted nonetheless.” he rubbed his thumb across your cheek and kissed you again. “i love you. happy anniversary. you mean the world to me and your health is more important to me.” you smiled and closed your eyes. “now come on. let’s go get some rest for tomorrow.”
