#disabeautiful is a hashtag I thought of because disabled people are beautiful too (looks or personality) and there is more to a disabled person than their disability.

New film about disability experiences created by Crip Video Productions. Film Synopsis: A college student with Cerebral Palsy named Ava must deal with the physical and emotional ramifications when her professor Ben has a Stroke that leaves him disabled in the middle of the semester when they least expect it. The film features disabled actors, and open captioning for hard of hearing.

My date-mate loves to create characters and worlds and stories. One in particular has a predominantly wheelchair bound character named Payton. So my date-mate wanted to make sure her winter outfit didn’t look stupid and bunched up and puffy. Y'know how winter coats are coupled with wheelchairs sometimes? That. So me being a part time wheelchair user I showed her my winter coat that I use with my wheelchair that’s cute and rustic while also FUNCTIONAL. It has four buttons in the back to undo when sitting and it makes the front of the coat lay flat while your bum still stays warm! It’s intended purpose is for horseback riding (which I used to do before it was too much strain on my body) and my date-mate still rides, so it was a great discovery and some A+ disabled character designing! It really made my morning and I got to send over some modeling shots of me in the coat and my chair to my date mate for drawing references <3

The creator of Crip Video Productions wrote an article about why they write stories about disability and cast disabled actors and their thoughts on media portrayals of disability. Let me start off by saying I’m able and a mom of a two year old. The other day my boyfriend, son, and I were grocery shopping. As I was chasing my son around the store, we came upon a service dog and it’s owner. My son immediately got my attention and was yelling “Dog! Dog! Dog!” I stopped him before he ran over and explained to him why the dog couldn’t play. I told him that the dog had a very important job and that he was helping his owner in the store. I told him he could say hi and wave but that he couldn’t bother the dog. We walked past and my son said hi very softly and waved to the dog and I smiled and waved at the owner… I’m now worried, was I rude? And if so, what do you recommend I do in the future?
