I was reading an older version of the script for the pilot of Dark Matter, where it opens with the image of One in a misty stasis pod oblivious to his surroundings, and also thinking about this cut scene from Episode 2.04 “We Were Family”:
ANDROID (O.S.): How long did it take you to start dreaming?
FOUR turns and throws her a look.
ANDROID: Thoughts and images from human memory form the basis of REM and NREM dreams. Without memories to process, brain mechanisms are incapable of producing cognitive contents.
FOUR: On the second day, I dreamt I was back in stasis, awake but unable to free myself. It’s a dream I’ve had many times since.
and the fact that when people are stasis pods, their digital consciousness is uploaded to keep the mind active, per Five’s explanation in Episode 3.03 “Welcome to the Revolution” of how she saved Sarah.
So, the six of them must have been dreaming while in stasis, and at some point when the memory-wiping virus did its thing, their dreams must have just gone black.
I feel like someone could write a short fic about that moment.

This post is going to be long, but I invite you to take a look.
Back in 2023, I started reading a crossover fanfic of two of my favorite anime, Re:Zero and Madoka Magica, called Puer Magus: Life in Another World, by an anonymous author and co-written with another user whose name I don't remember, but who answered the comments.
I loved the idea, but as I read the fanfic and it was updated until its death, with its last chapter published on June 6, 2023, the plot development didn't satisfy me. I kept reading it, yes, because I had hope, but between dialogues that sounded too similar to Re:Zero (my main complaint with that work), the fact that it often followed canon and barely introduced any significant changes to the plot, such as Subaru becoming a veteran Magi and his death, this fanfic was a disappointment to me.
Now, here's the main point: while the story was being published, I once posted a long comment where I pitched the authors a possible scenario, and while they didn't complain, I later realized that telling an author how to write their story was in very poor taste and deleted the comment.
However, the story just wouldn't leave my mind, and after talking about it on r/Fanfiction, I realized that the first step to being a writer is to have an idea and stick with it.
Although I had original story ideas before, I never wrote them down. At most, I'd outline a few chapters and then delete the entire Word document without much regret.
However, I've finally decided to take the plunge and become a fanfiction writer, starting with this fanfiction story whose concept I loved, but whose development disappointed me.
The concept is the same: Natsuki Subaru is a veteran Magi (yes, a universe where the Incubators decided to be inclusive) who is transported to another world and ends up with the power to travel through time… and while he's still the same boy who follows his heart, years of trauma have turned him into someone who maintains a mask of cynicism that tries to push away people who try to get close to him.
Although he continues to help others, he tries to keep a wall between himself and the rest of the world, and what motivates him to keep going is the discovery that I want the mysterious Witch of Envy with him, and depending on the answer, whether he commits suicide or not.
Yes, that's the core of the story.
In addition to promoting this story and sharing my writing progress with you, I would like to ask for your help, whether it's asking me questions or providing ideas, to whom I swear I will give due credit.
Anyway, this post is already very long, so I'll leave it for now. If you have any questions, please leave a comment or reblog this post with your question or idea.
