Page 2. ---- George De Palma Must Pay $200 or Go to Jail ---- A fine of $200 and costs or three months in jail was imposed this morning on George De Palma, 10 Sydenham street, for registering himself and a girl, under the age of 16 years, as Mr. and Mrs. Anderson at a local hotel. Magistrate Jones hears the plea of guilty and also listened to the youth's record. De Palma is out on suspended sentence for breaking and entering Ludlow Bros.' store one year ago last Christmas. He has been convicted twice on attempted burglary charges and was sent to the Industrial school for a sentence. on one of these occasions. The court passed sentence when it heard the record of the accused. The girl, being under the age of 16, will come before the Juvenile court. F. E. D. Wallace defended, pleading for a lenient view of the case.

“IS JAILED ON FALSE REGISTRATION CHARGE,” North Bay Nugget. May 4, 1932. Page 3. ---- Convicted on a charge of false registration at a hotel, Tony Mastrovito, Montreal, went to jail for two months in default of paying a fine of $100 and costs imposed on him by Magistrate S. Weegar in police court, Tuesday morning. Carmen Dupuis, also of Montreal, who Mastrovito, was charged with registering Monday night at the Chicago Cafe as his wife, and who was held on the same charge, was remanded for one week. 

The court was informed by Deputy-Chief J. J. Dennis that the couple were arrested at about 10.30, Monday night, at the cafe following complaints made to the police. They were registered as man and wife but admitted on questioning that they were not married he said. One other couple who were with the two accused were not held having produced a marriage certificate, Sergeant Frank Michaud, who with Constable T. Green accompanied the deputy-chief corroborated the other's statements. 

Mastrovito stated they were enroute to Montreal where they intended being married. He admitted living with the girl for a year and a half.

Had No License Hameed Shamas, Sudbury, settled out of court paying a fine of $1 and costs on a charge of selling fruit without a license.

Went To Jail Pleading guilty to charges of trespassing on the T. N. O. Railway, Robert McDonald, Peterboro County; Melvin Hinkley. Windsor; Charles White, Montreal and Arthur Pooley, Lindsay, on Tuesday were fined $5 or 10 days in jail each. All took the count. The quartette were taken into custody early Monday morning at Trout Mills by T.N.O. Constables R. C. Rennie and Wm. McCullough, following the theft of a railway hand lorry north of Lounsbury. Appearing before the magistrate Monday, all were remanded one day on charges of vagrancy. All pleaded not guilty to the theft of the lorry, when arraigned Tuesday morning in court, and as there was no evidence to prove the theft, the charges were reduced to that of trespassing. One witness Wm. Mitchell had seen the lorry with four men on board passing down the track early Monday morning but could not identify the men. Had Liquor Illegally For having liquor not acquired on an individual permit, Alexander Miller, 275 Flatter street, was taxed $100 and costs with an alternative of three months in jail on appearing before Magistrate S. Wergar on Monday morning. The man had been brought in by Sergeant Frank Michaud and on searching his residence two cases of beer was found, one of which had not been purchased on his permit. Were Old Offenders George Boucher, North Bay, and Adelard Paquette, Ottawa, were each sentenced to three months in jail on charges of intoxication both being third offenders. Both had a long list of previous convictions Paquette having been convicted 23 times, and Boucher eight times. 

Five Drunks Arrested A number of week-end drunks appeared Monday five falling into the toils of the law. Three went to jail on appearing before the magistrate and like the other two,settled up before court time each paying fines of $16.50.
