When Lyra took Fire out to find a suit to wear to the ball, she promised him that she would have one dance with him and Lyra likes keeping her promises. So, she breaks away from Red for a bit to go look for the male, but there's a lot of people hanging around in the ballroom and with everyone wearing masks and all dressed up, it's hard to tell where Fire is. Even though she helped pick a suit, it's not like every suit is different from each other like dresses are. The only image she has in mind as to what the male looks like is his little cheesy grin and the shaggy hair he always sports.
