They patched together this "outfit" and pretended to be pretend people. Eventually, they realized that they were more successful as a false landmark in the misty, confusing Forsaken Lands. Lost bugs would think they found something they could use as reference or a rest point... those bugs never got where they were headed.

Tree works as a collective intelligence that's not very intelligent. While they can work as a unit when hunting, each 'branch' has its own vague personality based on the specific mothflies hidden within. These personalities are not consistent, as many of the mothflies move around depending on their mood or if they're grumpy at one in a different branch. The names of the branches stay the same, and it's more like each mask has a name rather than the cluster underneath having a persona.
