the twist? Little Red is a vampire. and hungry.

The night sky is dark, breeze blowing in your hair; cool & refreshing. A shrieking howl pierces the night sky, a warning. Beware of the dark, beware for your life.

Your footsteps crunch the fallen leaves on the ground, warm red cape hung over your shoulders. The cloth is heavy, weight warming your frame as you follow the all-too familiar frame. The rough texture of the basket in your grasp reminding you of your mission.

“Sanna,” you remember your mother’s voice. It’d been just earlier that day when she asked you to do this. “I need you to take this to your grandmother’s house for me.” And you’d agreed. Of course you had. You’d been more than happy to!

Except you’d forgotten how early the sun sets during this season. Even with how heavy the fog surrounding you was, you thought you’d be fine. And you were! For about 15 minutes. You’d left a few minutes before the sun began to set, because that was when your mother had finished prepping the bag.

A rustling over by the bushes startles you half to death— you freeze, breath hitching. Your pupils grow gradually smaller, until they remain small slits in your burgundy eyes. A soft hiss escapes you, and you hear a deep growl in return.

“Red,” a deep growl emerges from the bushes. Piercing yellow eyes emerge from the fog, almost glowing in the dark. “Isn’t it a little late fir a lady like you to be out?”

Voice caught at your throat, you can’t manage an explanation. You hear a heavy foot step down, approaching you. Slow, heavy steps. Closer and closer.

When you’re met face to face with it, you stand unshaken. The creature— dark, furry, smelling of mud and dirt— it towers over you. The color of its eyes interests you, the yellow the same shade as a streetlight, yet more .. vibrant. It snarls, breathing through its mouth. You simply stare up at it.

“What?” it growls again, yet you remain unmoving. Unspeaking. You feel your heart beating in your chest, your soft breaths the only thing signaling to your not being dead from shock. It takes a step forward, nostrils flared, and claws pried out.

You can tell before it happens. The shift in its eyes, the change of its heart beat— you step back before its paws even swipe at you. It lets out a long huff, almost a groan. You can see the frustration in its eyes.

It takes you several beats to notice the blood covering its paws, chest, and even its ripped pants. The moon shines in the sky, full, fog clearing. You can finally see what it really is.

A wolf. A werewolf.

You’d heard of wolves around the area. You had. But encountering one .. it had never happened before. The sweet scent of blood floods your mind, your eyelids drooping just slightly at the dizzying, intoxicating, delicious scent. All you can think of is how nice it would taste.

Your cold fingers are wrapping around its wrist before your mind registers, fangs sinking into its forearm. The taste is sour at first, before the sweetness eases into your mouth. It’s almost leaving you delirious, the relief flooding your system.

You finish with the werewolf quicker than you hope. You make sure to not suck it dry, though it takes effort to. The large body slumps against the tree, then sliding to the floor. Your fingers pick up the basket by the handle, gentle as if it were porcelain.

The rest of the walk is short. Well, not quite. It feels quick. Quicker. due to your good mood. Gosh, you think, I’d been hungry. And when you finally, finally made it to your grandmother’s, there was still blood tinting your lips.

“Granny!” you call out from the door, lips curling up. Last time you were this relaxed was last time you fed. “I’m home!”
