Six months had passed since Elsa had left her throne and her people behind. Six months since she had caused a summer blizzard and, somehow, managed to undo it. Six months since she decided that staying in her kingdom without understanding her powers was too dangerous.
"Elsa, you can't leave! Look, you did it, you unfroze everything! Please...don't go..."
"I have to, Anna. What if this happens again?" I can't take that risk. I need to learn how to control it. And until I do, I can't be here. I can't put the kingdom at risk. I can't put you at risk."
Every night, as she tried to sleep, Elsa relived that conversation with her sister. Anna was safer without her around, she was sure of that. Just as she was sure that Anna, with her open heart and warm disposition, would be the royal that Arendelle deserved, unlike the Snow Queen.
Her travels had brought her no answers so far, and she sometimes wondered if she would ever be able to go home. Now, she found herself in the most famed city in France---Paris. As a child, studying far-off countries, she had often dreamed of seeing this beautiful city herself. A dream she had thought impossible when she lived locked behind doors. But now that she was here, she could hardly enjoy it. Not only because of the circumstances that had led her here, but because, of all days to be here, she had managed to arrive during some sort of festival.
Elsa did not do well even in quiet, refined crowds. The boisterous masses that filled Paris' streets were almost too much to bear. If only she could make her way to some place quiet. Secluded. The church, perhaps? Surely there would be no noise, no revelers, there.
