As much as Sera loved her home, in the same sense, she almost hated it. At the end of a work day, when everything smelled sweet and sugary, and the second floor of their house was either warm from the ovens or from all of the sunlight it tended to get, she felt like she could sleep for an eternity. It wasn’t a bad condition for a house, but for someone like her, that majorly preferred being active to sleeping early; it felt like a booby trap to get her to waste her day.

“Not so, house.” She scoffed under her breath, as she laced up her “getting shit done” boots, and tucked the burlap sacks she had grabbed earlier into the deep pockets of her tunic. In retrospect, Sera dressed more for illegal activities than she did for work or leisure. Funny when things work out like that.

Clomping down the stairs, she remembered to go a bit quieter at the end, wanting to appeal to her younger brother, and not destroy her chances of convincing him to leave his precious kitchen before she even spoke up.

“Kaaaaaaiiiii?” She called in a light, sing-songy voice, “Kai!”

Moving around the stairs into the kitchen, Sera continued innocently, “You didn’t put anything in the oven yet, right? Because I kind of wanted to do something today. With you, I mean.” She threw in the last sentence quickly, not wanting to give him a chance to wiggle out of her plans. This noose would be tight and inescapable if she died trying.

“I mean, going on a walk could be good for you.” Sera continued lightly, trying to fight off the rising sensation of goose bumps on her arms from wandering into his kitchen, “You could meet the love of your life, or it could get you out of this section of town before a riot hits… Not that I’m saying it’s going to! Just please,” she moved to drape over his arm, puppy eyes going strong, “Please come with your dear sister?”

She might have been laying it on a little thick, but beneath the goofiness was a genuine desire to pull Kai into her shenanigans, if only because she liked his companionship more than most others she had met during her time in Luciole. Not to mention that there was something far too amusing about pulling him into the dirtier side of existence, giving him an adrenaline rush that didn’t have something to do with burning pies. As a big sister, it was practically her right to drag him into this.

But she knew how he could get, so she also added, “Not to mention a walk wouldn’t take long, we could head back whenever.” Sera also wanted to add in about how if the trees were being taken care of, the fruit should be ripe enough for picking. Fairies were very, very careful about having enough food in the bigger cities year round, and things often grew out of season with enough love.
