Kjelle huffed as she stepped forward to thrust her lance into the tree. She always saw her mother training so it was only natural that she did the same thing, especially when she needed to get her mind off things…

“Hey Kjelle!” The young girl jumped then looked back to see her mother walk towards her. “What are you doing out here? It’s getting late!” Sully crossed her arms, looking at her daughter then tilted her head when she looked away. “Come on, you can train tomorrow. Even I don’t train everyday you know.”

“But mother I poisoned your food… and I’m nowhere near your level in terms of combat. I need to get stronger!” She protested against her mother and closed her eyes when the older knight patted her head.

Sully simply smiled as she ruffled her daughter’s hair. “Come on, you’re one of the best lance user’s I’ve seen for your age! Have you seen Cordelia’s daughter try to wield a lance? Or what about Sumia’s! They’re not nearly as half as good as you!”

Kjelle merely laughed. “Do you really mean it mother..?”

“Of course I mean everything that I say.” She winked. “Now come on, let’s go finish writing that reply letter to your father then tomorrow in the morning, I’ll teach you how to really use a lance that everyone would be jealous of you! …After we find some good breakfast since we can’t cook…” The knight laughed wearily and began walking home with her daughter.

“I hope that father will return soon! I want him to teach me more about fighting and tactics… even cooking!” Kjelle grinned happily as she carefully twirled her lance. “I think that I almost got this down at least!”

Sully hesitated on telling her daughter about what happened. She couldn’t tell her about the letter that she just got saying how he was… She forced a grin and ruffed her hair again. “Great job Kjelle! I’m so proud of ya!”

“Thanks mother! I’m so glad that I have you and father fighting to protect the peace of Ylisse. As soon as I rank up, I hope that I’ll be able to protect you both.”

“Woah, slow down there girl. You need years of experience so you’re not going to be able to rank up that easily! I’ll teach you the tricks to beat everyone else in the morning alright? So get your butt into bed.”

“Thanks mother! Please teach me everything that you know!”

“Mother…?” Kjelle stared at her mother’s back as she was fighting off the Risen. She was winning, she was killing everything in her sights so why…? Why was she about to fall from such weak attacks…? “Mother!” She ran towards Sully as reinforcements finally came to take care of the other Risen and carried the knight back to the castle.

“Ngh.. S-Sorry Kjelle… I won’t be able to… teach you how to…fight like I said…” She reached up for her daughter’s hand who grabbed it eagerly and sobbed, holding onto it tightly.

“No don’t say that…! You’ll be fine! Please mother.. don’t like to me like father did…”

Sully looked at her daughter, shocked by what she said. “You…”

“I found his letter… he died at war… don’t leave me mother…! You said that you were going to teach me so please..!” Kjelle cried harder.

The knight was quiet for a moment then looked at her. “I’m sorry Kjelle… but.. you’ll be fine.. after all..” she managed a weak grin in an attempt to stop her daughter from worrying before closing her eyes for good. “I was fine.. on my own…”

“Mother!!”

Kjelle stared at her mother’s casket blankly. Her tears just didn’t want to fall anymore.
