Faries, in general, don’t like raising their own children. The are like Cuckoo birds in many ways. When the faeries do take direct involvement with the raising of their young, it’s part of communal nurseries that are the size of towns. A group of fae will run the town wich predominantly houses children. Often they will recruit or coerce humans or other beings to join the town to act as caregivers and do the work of running it. 

Predominantly fae are brood parasites. When a baby is born with fae blood, they will slip the child into a human household. If the child is born to a human, they may just let the human raise it as their own. Otherwise, they may swap out the children or leave a child where it will be taken in. This often works well because changelings (what young fae are called) are innately magical and incredibly persuasive in their cries. It is specially tuned to hit the nurturing portion of the human mind and make them want to help the changeling and care for them.

When the changeling is between 3 and 10 they are taken away from the human parents and brought to Never-Never. This is a crucial time in a changelings life because if they don’t eat fae food and live surrounded by magic, their powers will fade and they will become just human and age at a normal human rate.

The second way changelings are created is by stealing a human child and raising them as they would a fae born child. Eating fae food and living around the magic can turn any normal human child into a fae. However if done too late in life, they simply become enslaved to the faeries they way an adult it.
