I thought Iād kill a little time on a quiet Friday giving a shout-out to one of my favourite YouTube channels. I know Grand Theft Auto V isnāt everyoneās cup of tea, but there are actually lots of players who enjoy its online version not as much for the violence and mayhem, just for racing and other stuff. āFailraceā, which has been going for a number of years (and even has the coveted āverifiedā certification from YouTube), is run by a British fellow whose often-hilarious commentary as he plays through various races and tests modifications on games like GTA V and Forza Horizon are the best parts of these videos.
Once in a while heāll attempt āSurvive the Huntā which is quite fascinating. The concept is basically Hide and Seek. Within GTA V heāll be given a brief head start ahead of a pack of 12-15 āhuntersā - everyone has their maps turned off and his challenge is to blend in with the AI traffic and pedestrians for 12 hours of in-game time (which is about an hour of real time). Sometimes he makes it ... sometimes he doesnāt. And when the chase begins it can be quite manic! As an added attraction, sometimes the AI gets a bit wonky, leading to some additional bemused commentary.
Sometimes heāll also post follow-up videos discussing the session and showing what the hunters were up to as he went āundercoverā. Hereās his discussion of this chase.
Another bit of value in these videos is for people who arenāt familiar with GTA V, it really gives you a good look at how insanely detailed the game world is (and only the bottom ācityā part of the map is used for these; they donāt go into the countryside beyond the city).
