@traumapathy:  for once, he’s risen earlier than she has in order to surprise her with his gift, having left it in their room for her to wake up to. it hangs on the wall across from her bed, although sunny himself is nowhere to be found. his present for her is none other than a portrait of his own design bearing mari's IMPECCABLE likeness. countless colors swirl together with exquisite linework to form the drawing in question, and it’s evident from the amount of detail that this project had taken her little brother hours - if not days - to complete.
and yet… there is still something off about it. in the bottom right corner, a small handful of spots appear darkened and desaturated, and it seems very much unlike a mere artistic liberty, unfortunately. no… instead, this is something far more painful to behold. they are the remnants of his tears, having been unintentionally immortalized in his own work of art. when it had come to even this much, he was seemingly unable to provide something flawless for her, and his very SORROW now stains the piece for all time.
Perhaps Mari simply doesn’t see the stains of darkness. Perhaps she doesn’t care, just momentarily. She’ll certainly find them far later, when she has less excitement in her blood and can fully analyze her brother’s work. But for now, She only seeks to find Sunny.
When she does, she scoops him off the ground into one of her ever-loving hugs, swinging him around in a circle and planting a kiss on his forehead once she lets him back onto the ground. “Oh Sunny...it’s perfect.”
