October 16, 2013:
"I think we've become more friendly as time has gone by," Ms. Anderson said. "We went through something quite profound together and there's only one other person—"
"Traumatizing," Mr. Duchovny interjected. "We were traumatized."
"Traumatized. OK, that's the word—traumatized," she said. "And there's only one other person who has had that experience, which is me, and I don't think we've ever really fully had that conversation yet."
"You want to have it right now?" Mr. Duchovny asked.
Despite a reporter's encouragement, they politely declined.
BONUS: FINALLY HAVING THAT CONVERSATION
November 12, 2024:
DD: The part of this conversation that is the trickiest part for me is... my failure of friendship, or my failure of companionship. There was a long time working on the show where we were just not even dealing with one another off camera. And there was a lot of tension, which didn't matter, apparently for the work.... I could have handled myself better....
DD: We're just scurrying trying to figure out who were are. You're a little bit younger than me, too-- you're very young. At least I'm in my thirties, you're in your twenties. It just turned your world upside down completely. So I think we both kind of-- I don't want to speak for you, but for me it was... I was trying to figure out who I am in all this; what's my part in all this. I want to take advantage of all this, y'know? Like, how do I make this into my career...?
GA: Yeah.... I mean, our hours.
DD: Well, yeah, it would make you insane to try to do it. Sleep deprivation, you were pregnant as well in the first year, you had a baby the first year. I mean, I can't imagine that you could remain sane, okay, at whatever age you were. Twenty four, and you get pregnant; you're on a show that blows up; your dreams are coming true, in a way, but it's also a nightmare now.
GA: Getting a divorce.
DD: [Laughs.] You're-- [Both laugh.]
GA: I do remember where there were times that I just bawled my eyes out.
DD: There would have to be!
[Both remember her telling him she was pregnant, same day Blue had been spayed. Discuss not communicating, Chris Carter suggesting couple's counseling for their characters as early as Season 1, both struggling to voice their needs.]
GA: But it's hard. It's hard under those circumstances to-- y'know, it required us to be... uber adults very quickly. And I have to imagine under those extreme circumstances that the only thing that's going to want to come out is our [inner] child and not our adult at all.
[Intermission pause.]
DD: There's things that you can miss if you don't try to stand up and say, y'know, just be vulnerable and say, 'I'd like to know what it's like for you.' I know that I never asked that.
GA: Me neither.
[Brings up him leaving the show in 2001, feeling guilt afterwards.]
GA: I don't think I ever blamed you.... I don't think I blamed you at all. I don't think I was upset.
DD: [Joking] Well, thanks a lot! [Laughs.]
GA: I mean, for me at that time, it was, 'Can I, too?' You know, at first I thought, 'We're both going to because clearly it can't go on without him, so surely I'll be able to--' And then they started talking about, 'Well, if you stay on, you can actually make some good money.' And I kinda went, 'Oh, okay!'
[Both discuss Revival, its ending, their misunderstanding, DD feeling "attacked" by others for 90s wage gap.]
GA: Really, that they blamed you in some way? Oh, really, I didn't know that. I'm sorry.
DD: No. No, it's probably just me.
GA: But that's interesting, that I wasn't paying attention to that side of it.
DD: Well, I didn't make you pay attention to it.
[Both discuss childhood.]
GA: [On moving] Um, I remember being excited by it; and then the scales fell, and I think I, I struggled more than, than my parents perhaps knew. Went through a very, some very difficult periods. And then found, found the punk rock scene; and there was something in that that answered something for me, that fed something for me, that appealed to the angst that was building up inside me. And my feeling of being an outsider and displaced... and I think I had a fair amount of anger. But then when I found acting and theater, initially, that definitely opened up something in me and I felt like, all of a sudden, there was something I could do and I had purpose.
[Both discuss acting training, DD's constant feeling of shame.]
DD: I actually do know that my heart’s in a good place; and that I can come back to. And I do know that what other people think of me is not my business, and that’s what I have to constantly come back to.
GA: I think that’s one of the most important lessons in life.
DD: Yeah. And you know, we, you and I went through a rupture of, like, having a lot of people think about us and had to figure out how to live within that. And even something stupid like-- remember when we left Vancouver and I went through a whole, the city hated me the final year.
GA: Oh, yeah.
DD: And it's a joke, right? It's something to laugh at. But I gotta tell ya, that really hurt.
GA: I bet. Yeah.
DD: So, there's been a couple, y'know-- like, having to make an announcement that I was in rehab for sex addiction, because I was forced to by somebody outing me, not anonymously.
GA: Right.
DD: It wasn't something that I would have-- [chuckles weakly] --announced, y'know?
GA: You mean somebody within the group?
DD: Yeah. So, those two-- as stupid as the Vancouver thing is, as silly [...]-- but I felt like I'd been rejected by a city. And then the sex thing, there's all that shame.
GA: Yeah, yeah.
DD: So, there'd been two, like, epic moments in my life where I've felt severe shame. Severe shame. As an adult....
GA: And how do you work through that?
DD: I don't know. Just time.
GA: Therapy?
DD: [Joking] What are you saying? What exactly are you saying? Yeah, I've had therapy. I do therapy.
GA: And does that help?
DD: I think talking helps.
[Discuss parenthood and workaholism.]
GA: I'm very close to my kids. It's my happiest time, I think, when I'm with them. I, I really really enjoy being a mother; and at the same time, I'm often not around because I'm, I work a lot. I find that hard. And yet at the same time, it's part of my choice, y'know? I could choose not to work.... I find it so painful to observe them not getting what they want.

He was petting Tinker bell, and so was Anthony Kiedis from red hot chili peppers, but I recognized Chris first then Anthony after he left. 🫣
I asked “Are you Chris Carter?” He Said “I am” I told him I love his show and he said “ It’s funny say that I just got back from lunch with David and Gillian, we hadn’t seen each other in a while so it is always fun to get together”
I still can’t believe it happened as well as he talked about it! 😵💫🤣❤️

This was one of my favorite episodes (despite the shock created by the intro 😃). I know that David has no obligation to share his personal life with the public, so I always cherish the little moments that he volunteers to talk about, like how he approached fame with his kids, the phone call with his son, or the conversation he had with his mother.
Did I understand what Chris Carter said on David's podcast correctly? That he painted some big grand plan that Scully was having a alien baby. And we missed it?. That wasn't obvious at all. If none of us got that that seem like a storyteller issue aka him not us.
Also really not better ending for Scully!! It's even worse!!! Does that mean she would have the baby stolen from her like Sveta had hers stolen and be experimented on further????
I can't tell if he was being funny or if he is annoyed that we didn't understand his 'grand plan' despite it seeming like he only told David Duchovny. They were laughing so I wonder if it's his brand of humour and I just don't get it. I don't follow stuff about him much at all so I don't know.
I'm still going to go with the series ended with that candle scene in the church 😔
