The little amulet doesn’t come into your possession with a clear chain of ownership;  you found it on the sidewalk, in the grass along a random road, next to a dumpster, in a pawnshop.

And it’s not...rich. Pretty, gaudy, probably glass yes.   But it’s just a nice thing someone gave or threw away and there’s no manufacturer or anything to let you know where it came from.

And it comes back to you.  Mysteriously in the wash, in your mail, delivered by crows. 

And while you have it, you see things.  Out of the corner of your eye, randomly on the side of the road, on a roof, down an alley. 

Something about them raises goosebumps, but they never stick around to be investigated.  But you can see why the last owner got rid of it.
