#Repost per credit from & the courtesy of @faern ・・・ I remember vividly how hard side plank used to be for me. & I’m not talking about this particular variant either. Just the general situation- even though technically I had all the space to get into this particular shape- the basic biz was ridiculous. You know when all the ridiculousness went away? Immediately after I stopped grabbing my toe like this. NOW don’t get me wrong I definitely appreciate a few moves where grabbing the toe is fab- I’ll share those eventually. It’s just that there’s so much more going on than that grab- in fact I’ve come to just touch my fingers to my big toe and hold the shape that way at this point. If I can’t stay then I tap the toe repeatedly and then I’m there. This is a vast amount of strength and flexibility all mixed in with possible mobility and it took some time to whip into shape. My point is this: if you cannot even get the foot near the hand up there why do you expect to be able to hold with any steadiness if you are holding onto that toe for dear life? I’m absolutely not saying you shouldn’t try more challenging things- What I am saying is- try things in between. All that “odd” stuff I add into classes is based on exactly that- Surrounding the area of possibility.
