Have you played FADING SUNS
By Bill Bridges
Stop me if you've heard this one: In a dark future, human civilization has reverted to an emperor and several noble houses. The nobility and guilds control most technology, with the average person being not much better off than a medieval peasant. The church preaches that this is right and good, and the nobles serve as sin-eaters, protecting their subjects from the harm technology might cause by keeping it for themselves. A typical group of PCs might include nobles, guildsmen, a priest, and an alien or two (which can vary from "Some sort of near human that's accepted by the church" to "Six armed gorilla-bear" to "Frog-like humanoids who claim their ancestors were kidnapped and taken to earth by mysterious precursors aliens).
It's a weird mishmash of a setting with both psychics and priestly miracles, but it actually -thinks- about what a far future middle ages might be like. Every profession in the current edition has a couple of folk saints with short hagiographies attached. Adventures are structured as miracle or passion plays- the sort of stories you tell the peasantry, with optional moral lessons. There's a planet at war with an alien infection where the local garrison firmly believes in a "Preacher Juan" (Prester John) whose kingdom is on the other side of the war zone and is a safe haven if only they could reach it. And so on.
It's also one of the big nineties metaplot RPGs- there's setting secrets that have yet to be revealed even now, which is probably not a surprise since the main developer worked on Werewolf and Mage back in the day.
