“Countess? What is this?”

Nadia had summoned him to her baths. Kai had expected that she were pained by headaches, in need of some magic to ease them. Instead, he found her perfectly alert in the dimmed chamber, half submerged in the bath, and surrounded by lightly scented candles.

“Ra’ash, you know you must call me Nadia. And this is a reward! You deserve to relax.” Her eyes twinkled in the candlelight. Kai felt himself drawn towards her.

“But Lucio-“ Nadia cut him off with a sharp look.

“We are not talking about my husband during our relaxation bath, love.” Her face twisted with distaste. “He is quite the opposite of relaxing.”

Kai hesitated. “Yes milady.” He fidgeted. “Do you want me to…?” He gestured vaguely to his clothes.

“Of course, Kai, I wouldn’t expect you to bathe in your day clothes.”

“Yes, er, of course.” Keenly aware of her gaze on him, Kai stripped, leaving his clothing in a dry corner of the room. Then he descended the steps into the bath, pushing small ripples through the water, until he was standing in the center of the bath, uncertain of where to go next. Luckily, Nadia was quick to summon him to her side. And with a bit more confidence, he followed her instruction, sitting so that mere centimeters separated them. Nadia wrapped one leg around his and put a hand on his hand. Her gaze into his eyes was intense, but loving. He started to relax.

“Thank you, Kai, for being here with me.” The candlelight cast her face in soft shadows. “I don’t know if I could have done this alone.”

He squeezed her hand gently. “I wouldn’t have it any other way, countess.”
