Name: Fabrosaurus australis
Name Meaning: Fabre’s Reptile
Classification: Dinosauria, Ornithischia
Fabrosaurus is a basal Ornithischian known from Lesotho, South Africa, specifically in Basutoland. It lived around 199 to 189 million years ago, from the Hettangian to Sinemurian ages of the Early Jurassic. Despite being a fairly well known dinosaur - perhaps because it is one of the few non-neornithean dinosaurs with a name that starts with F, allowing it to complete “ABC of Dinosaurs” books - its actually a very poorly known genus. It is only known from crushed and disarticulated skeletons that share a lot of features with other early ornithischians, and may even be just another specimen of Lesothosaurus. Clearly, more fossil remains are needed to paint a better picture of this dinosaur.
