Warriors shouldn't have assumed that Wind's mind was fully healed. He shouldn't have assumed that he could leave the boy alone in his tent while the rest of the Chain discussed how to move forward. He shouldn't have assumed that Wind wouldn't wake up screaming, the sound a stone in Warriors' heart as he threw his food to the ground and raced to console the young sailor.
"My leg, where's my leg?! FOUR, WARS, TIME- WHERE ARE YOU?!"
"I'm here!" Warriors cried, rushing into the tent and crashing to his knees beside the panicking teen. "I'm right here, Wind, I'm sorry we left you alone."
"M-my- where is it?" Wind overbalanced, falling hard into Warriors' waiting arms.
"You burned it, remember? You wanted a fitting memorial... and we're going to get you a fine prosthetic so you can walk again. Do you remember that?"
Wind nodded, sniffling into Warriors' chest for a few minutes before he spoke again. "Wars... please... don't leave me..."
Warriors' breath caught in his throat, and he buried his face in the boy's hair. "I'm not leaving, kiddo, I'm right here."
Soft feet shuffled at the entrance of the tent, and Four's softer voice called out a question. "Is everything alright in here?"
Warriors turned back to look at the smith, giving him a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "Yes. It will be."

âKatya, Katya listen to me, dammit! You know what happens to you if you do this.â Goncharovâs eyes were tethered to Katyaâs, never breaking focus, not even to look at the pistol in her shaking grip. âThis wonât save Sofia. You donât understand.â
Katya tightened her already white knuckles around her weapon, only a twitch away from guts on the wall and blood on her hands. âYou donât say a word about her. You leave her out of this, you bastard.â
Goncharov leaned back against the desk, the sharp wooden edge of it pressing into his skin. âPut the gun down, Katya. We can talk about this. Sofia doesnât have to die.â
âNeither does Andrey.â
The air froze, still as a rock, dead as a fool.
Dead as Goncharov if he made the wrong move.
OR
A slight turn of events from the original plot, where Katya's love for Sofia runs everything into the ground, and Sofia's best kept secret is revealed.

"Hang in there, sailor," Time said, one hand carding desperate comfort through Wind's hair. "You're being so good."
"Mmmph," Wind groaned, his voice more muffled by the gag in his mouth than his face being buried in Time's chest. Earlier, those had been grumbles that he didn't need to be treated like a weak baby, but now he was in too much pain to care.
"Here's another," Warriors said, and Wind's hands squeezed Time's as the captain extracted another piece of shrapnel from his back.
Neither of them said anything when Wind failed to hold back a whine.

Skyloft called them dark keese; Hateno didnât think much of it as they fought off a small swarm of them. They went down easily, like any other keese, but Hateno was wrong to assume that their simple appearance meant that he was safe from elemental attacks. Skyloftâs shouted warning was a moment too late as one keese dove past Hatenoâs shield to sink its fangs in his arm. Hateno hissed, flexing his hand to dismiss his shield and immediately drove his stone fist into the batâs body. The force of the blow sent the keese flying, dead on impact, but a wet crack and a lingering pain in Hatenoâs arm told him that something had been left behind. Another keese swooped at him and he sent the signal for his shield to reform.
Nothing happened.
Not a good time!
Hateno ducked beneath the screeching bat and shouted âI need cover!â
Smith was there, slicing the remaining keese down while Hateno smacked some sense into his prosthetic. The impact jarred his left arm unplesantly and he growled, reaching to pull out the dislodged fang. His right arm fumbled again, useless fingers pushing it deeper into his skin instead.
âShit!â
âWhatâs wrong?â Smith asked, kicking the last keese off her sword.
âMy armâs not responding,â Hateno complained, and tapped his pad to remove it altogether.
âLetâs see if Chief can take a look at it,â Smith suggested, her hand offered to help Hateno stand.
Hateno took it but his legs were weak under him, sending him staggering against Smith. âWoah- what theâŚâ
âWhatâs this?â Smith asked instead, pointing at the angry red lump on Hatenoâs arm. âLooks like Chief has more important things to check?â
âAh yeah, I got bit.â
âSo did Prince. It didnât look like⌠that.â
Hateno cringed. âRiiightâŚâ
âWhatâs going on?â Chief asked. Hateno hadnât noticed Smith wave him over⌠or maybe he just had a sixth sense for trouble. Was that a standard part of medical training? âWerenât you just wearing your arm?â
âItâs glitching so I took it off,â Hateno waved it off and offered his other arm for inspection. âThis one got bit by one of those keese, I think youâll need to pull it out.â
Chief frowned and turned Hatenoâs arm over. âPull what out?â
âThe⌠fangâŚâ Hateno hissed as he saw what Chief was looking at. âI tried to grab it and only pushed it in further. I didnât think it would heal over so fast.â
Chief pushed down on the raw lump of skin on Hatenoâs arm, making him yelp as he found the buried fang. âSorry. Letâs find a place to sit so I can dig that out.â
Smith winced and clapped Hateno on the shoulder. âWell, have fun with that.â
âThanks,â Hateno groaned as Chief led him to a quieter corner. His steps were unsteady, more uncoordination than nerves, and Chief picked up on it immediately.
âThe paralytic is still in your system,â Chief stated. âPrince recovered within minutes.â
âWhat?â
âSkyloft said that those dark keese target your ability to fight. Rabbit and a few of the others reognized the type.â
âThatâs why my arm stopped responding?â Hateno asked, and Chief nodded.
âI donât know if the effect is a venom or a curse, but itâs safe to assume itâll get worse the longer the fang remains in you.â
âYeah,â Hateno sighed. âLet me grab my poppy milk and-â
Chief grabbed Hatenoâs hand before he could touch his pad. âNo painkiller. Iâm sorry, but again, I donât know how the paralytic could react.â
Hateno swore. âSo I just have to hold still and feel you cutting me open?â
Chief directed him to sit down and pulled two scapels from his bag, comparing their sizes. âI could ask Smith to hold you?â
âNo thanks.â
âKeeping still shouldnât be an issue until I get the fang out,â Chief pointed out wryly. âBut yes, you will feel it. You can have your medicine as soon as your arm is closed again, alright?â
âYeah,â Hateno breathed, and extended his arm for Chief to work on; he tried to, anyway. Just like the prosthetic, it no longer moved when he told it to. ââŚYouâll have to move my arm.â
Chief hummed acknowledgement and stretched Hatenoâs arm out. He cleaned the area around the keese bite and Hateno narrowly avoided biting his tongue as Chief raised the scapel to his arm.
âDeep breaths. Iâll have it out soon.â
Hateno opened his mouth to retort that he was breathing but an involuntary scream left him instead as Chief made the first cut into his skin. It was hard to stop screaming after that. Chief didnât allow him time to catch his breath as he sliced deeper through layers of muscle, searching for buried fang. Hateno couldnât pull away, he couldnât fight back, he couldnât even wipe the tears from his own face. He was trapped, not by Chiefâs loose grip on his arm, but by that fucking curse the keese had embedded in him.
Chief exchanged his scapel for tweezers and Hateno did bite his tongue this time as metal and bone scraped inside his skin. Chief quickly pulled the fang out, his own hand starting to shake as the curse reached him too. Hateno watched through blurry eyes as, without a momentâs hesitation, Chief threw the fang into the fire that someone had started. There were a few startled yelps but no signs of a magical explosion.
They both sat quietly for a minute, Chief breathing heavily and Hateno still shaking with sobs that refused to stop even though it was over. His eyes were squeezed shut against the tears, so he didnât realize that Chief had moved closer until there was a hand on the back of his neck and soft lips pressed to his.
That was certainly a surprise, though Hateno wasted no time in desperately leaning into the kiss. He tasted salt and copper and felt a warm glow in his chest because Chief had kissed him first. He was always so shy about it, Hateno had assumed that Chief had forgotten that he could initiate.
Hateno was reminded fondly of their first time, when Chief had been bedridden with stitches down his back. What Hateno had told Chief then stood true now.
âThey say that a kiss makes the pain go away.â
He didnât want Chief to pull away, even though rationally he knew that his arm was still open and bleeding. He opened his eyes to shining sea-green, a bemused smile on lips he tried to chase.
âAh- not yet,â Chief said, holding him back with a hand on his chest. âLet me close this up, first.â
Hateno groaned in disappointment, but he couldnât deny his relief as Chief helped him down a vial of poppy milk. He sighed, feeling the pain dull even as Chief pulled a needle and thread through the wound.
He waited patiently, watching as Chief bandaged his arm and went through the long process of putting his tools away. His mind was fuzzy when Chief finally turned to look at him expectantly, but this time it was Hateno who pulled Chief closer for another kiss.

It was easy, natural for Link to let his mind drift away as Impa showed him to the medical tent. He stared straight ahead, letting the doctorâs words wash over and around him as he sat and offered his arm for examination. They asked questions and he gave silent consent, his slate untouched on his lap.
âI need to move your arm, thereâŚâ
Nod.
âLet me know if this is too painful.â
Nod.
A nurse was busy off to the side, but Link barely registered their movements. He tried not to focus on anything at all, not the doctorâs incessant confirmations of his consent-
âI am going to touch you here, is that alright?â
Not the feeling of hands on his skin, unwanted and unable to be pushed away-
âI think Lana would be more equipped to deal with this one.â
That name, Link couldnât ignore. He suppressed his flinch and cast his mind out farther, hoping to escape the rest of the conversation and the anticipation of her hands on his body.
The nurse spoke quietly, soft words that Link wouldnât hear. He didnât react as the doctor left the tent. He was still, barely present, waiting for her to enter and do what she would with him.
Long, slow minutes passed and she didnât appear. Linkâs hands curled into fists, his nails digging into his palms. The sharp new pain brought him back just enough to realize that the nurse, at some point, had sat beside him. Not speaking, not touching, just waiting.
The nurse hadnât asked any questions, so Link dared to ask his own. He took his slate and scrawled, messily, Lana.
âHm? No. She doesnât need to see you,â the nurse said. âYou donât need her magic to heal.â
Link wondered how he knew that. He wondered why, amidst the fear and uncertainty, he wanted to reach out and hold the nurseâs hand.
It was a ridiculous thought, but he watched his arm move as if with a mind of its own and his fingers brushed against the nurseâs.
He startled. Link flinched. Then he realized that the nurse hadnât moved away. He reached out again, slipping into a waiting, callused hand.
The grounding sensation was instant. Link felt tethered, felt present, felt safe in a way he didnât think was possible in a medical tent. He didnât need to think about the doctor, or Lana, or floating away. He was here, and the nurse at his side understood what he needed more than anyone else had so far. A calm, steady presence that waited for him to make the first move.
âYou can wait here until youâve healed,â the nurse said. âNobody else needs to see you right now.â
Link wanted to thank him, but words had never worked for him. Cautiously, he pulled the nurse closer and folded around him in a loose hug. The nurse was so much smaller than him and Link could feel that he was strong, as gentle as his arms were as they wrapped around his waist. They held the embrace for a few moments, then Link was the first to pull away before he offered his arm again. This time, his mind was clear as the nurse went about to accelerate the healing.

This would be a whole lot easier if Hyrule was awake to heal himself.
This would also be a whole lot easier if Hyrule would stay awake at all.
Legend glanced up from Hyrule's leg, finding his eyes closed again. Dammit. He nudged Hyrule's chin up, glaring into half-lidded eyes. "Hey. Hey. Stay with me, Hyrule. You can't pass out yet."
"Hurts," Hyrule gasped.
"Yeah, I know," Legend said as he applied more salve to the burn. "This is what happens when you fumble your flaming sword. Honestly, I can't believe I have to worry about you of all people."
