I'd love to hear how you came up with Rico. What's the backstory on creating him? And just to clarify, is he actually Fred’s dad?
first of all – no, Rico isn't Fred’s dad, he's actually Marco’s father! you can check out this post to see how much they look alike 🤣
now let me think... if i remember correctly, i decided to sketch Rico right after creating Fred’s parents in this post. from the very beginning my headcanon was that Marco was raised single-handedly by Rico (i still haven't decided what happened to his mom).
speaking of parents, another big headcanon of mine is that Fred’s father left before he was even born, so Fred grew up only with an emotionally distant mother. that kind of explains why he’s so rebellious and why he ended up in a correctional facility – there was zero parental guidance or anyone who actually gave a shit about him. being a problem child was his only way of getting attention, which completely explains why he turned out the way we see him in the show.
yet another headcanon of mine is that Fred, Marco and Bruno have been friends since childhood (around ages 7–8); because of that, Fred grew up knowing both Bruno’s parents and Marco's dad. as a single parent, Rico is an incredibly affectionate and caring father, who deeply loves his son and the best friends Marco spends all his time with 🥹♥️
because Fred never had a real father in his life, he quickly grows attached to Rico and his warm, tender attitude. he’s so starved for that kind of attention, and Rico basically becomes the father figure Fred never had. so, even though they aren't biologically related, i heavily headcanon them as being incredibly close, like father and son ♥️
and that's exactly why i want to believe that Fred, Marco, and Bruno share a really tight bond and look out for one another. it’s the total opposite of the show, especially with Fred trying to ditch the MK and run away by himself in season 3 ep 7... but again, they’re supposed to be the villains, so the creators just had to show them as bad friends lol 🤦🏻♀️
thinking about all this just gave me so much motivation to draw them together hehehehe
