Question: is there an established etiquette around suggesting more/specific tags to an author? I don't want to be rude. But I do feel some kind of "help me help you" kind of way.

It’s time y’all. Starting today we get cozy and dig in. Below you’ll find the December FICS.BINGO card (All ages), the Marathon FICS.BINGO card (18+), and the FICS.BINGO template for those who want to participate on their own terms. 

The life lines are:

Bounce Off: Create something inspired by fanfic you've read. For example, make fanart, write a song, or build a playlist.

Lucky Horse: Write your own fanfic and post it on Ao3 for everyone else to enjoy.

Clever Bear: Read a fanfic of your choice.

A quick reminder of the participation guidelines: 

Find your fics on Ao3 and just go 🐻

Ao3: Commenting on the fics you’ve read is highly encouraged. Show the authors some love and appreciation for their work! 

Tumblr: Share thoughts on the Fics.Begone Readathon experience using the hashtags #FICS.BEGONE #F.BG. Add the tag “Do Not Propagate” if you include #WOE.BEGONE or #W.BG but don’t want Dylan to read your post. 

Tailor your own experience. You are encouraged to explore beyond your favorite themes, never beyond your boundaries. Don’t yuck other people’s yum. 

Participation is the prize. There are no checkpoints, we will not check your homework :)

The event lasts a season (three months), starting on Monday December 1st, 2025 and ending on Sunday March 1st, 2026. Each month we’ll publish a bingo card to encourage participation. We’ll also release some fun bonus goodies throughout the event, such as:

Interviews with authors; 

Reading suggestions to get to that bingo card filled out; 

Fanfic read by voice actors (only with explicit permission of the author - contact us if you’re interested!) 

The FICS.BEGONE bingo cards will have the following themes:

We’re also publishing a bingo template for people who want to participate on their own terms. Build your own Bingoals!

Event guidelines

First of all: the January Bingo card 🎉 This month we are shifting the focus of FICS.BEGONE to include explicit fics. We have made sure to include a confirmed ace option for people who'd like to participate without reading sex scenes or kink 😊 Though you are at risk of woeboohbah exposure #Boohzone, sorry not sorry /silly As a reminder: it's always an option to build your own bingo card with the template, which we've shared here.

Secondly: It’s the sixth week of FICS.BEGONE - time for a bonus challenge (: To complete the January bonus challenge (part of the Marathon card), you’ll need to read: 

Something old (a fic published in 2023 or earlier) 

Something new (a fic published in 2026) 

Something borrowed (a fic that was a gift)

Something blue (a fic that has tags related to depression, angst, or bruising)

Finally: December was a bit of a false start, but we still have some goodies in the works. We hope to start sharing some of these later this month 🎇

Bingo

Bingo cards are the main way to participate in the Readathon as a reader. 

Targeted: choose one line on the bingo card and make that your reading goal for the month. Each fic counts for one square, meaning you’ll need to read 5 fics total. You may not use a life line. 

Completionist: gotta read them all! Each fic you read may count for up to two squares, meaning you’ll need to read a minimum of 13 fics and a maximum of 25. You may use the life lines to cover up to 3 squares. 

Marathon. The Marathon Bingo card can only be completed by participating across the whole event, making it an 18+ card. The Marathon Card encourages reading larger series and contributing by creating your own fanart. 

Build your own Bingoals: use our published Fics.Bingo template to create your own bingo card. 

The life lines are:

Conversation

Talk to authors in the comment section! Share your thoughts, ask them questions. Writing is a skill and time-consuming craft. Engage with your fan artists to show your appreciation for the work they’ve shared. A little bit of love goes a long way. 

Chat with fellow fans on tumblr. Use the tags #fics.begone #f.bg. For example, post themes you notice coming (and going) across the years, share how it feels to (re)read certain fics, and of course: post bingo card progress pics! Note: thoughts on just one specific fic are best left in that comment section, so the author remains part of the conversation. 

We are keeping discussions away from the woebecord. As a reminder, you can add the tag “Do Not Propagate” to make sure your post is hidden from Dylan. 

Creation

Another way to participate in the Readathon is by creating new things for people to enjoy. The WOE.BEGONE fandom is full of amazing creatives using all kinds of media and fanfic may be yet another starting point of inspiration. Draw fanart, make music inspired by a fanfic, or… just write more fanfic! Perhaps even some fanfanfic? ... Fanficfic? You get our point.
