Fun fact my Hawke’s first name is Mairen (pronounced “MEHR-rin”) because
1.) I borrowed it from an IRL coworker at the time because I thought it was a cool name with the kinda English-Irish sound of a Fereldan name
2.) I did NOT realize that the canon f!Hawke name was Marian (which is really close to that); I thought it was just an automatically-generated suggestion and remember saying “haha that’s close”
3.) I also DID NOT realize there would be a character called Merrill, whose name sounds EXACTLY the same but ending with an L-sound instead of an N-sound
4.) I TRIED to retcon it for my current 2nd playthrough and I could not do it, even though I came up with that WAY BACK IN 2011. I even tried to change it to Marian and was like “this doesn’t work and I can’t even explain why”. So yeah she’s stuck with Mairen.
