Dialogue: collaborative portraits - 2018 In this series, I wanted to explore the relationship between a photographer and his subjects. For each image, a 35mm film camera in double-exposure mode was used to take a photograph of one of my classmates, who then pointed the camera back at me to take a shot. Each pair of shots is combined in a single double-exposure portrait, sometimes peculiarly aligned and at other times uncannily coinciding. Further imperfections are derived from a printing process designed to mimic the transitions from photographer to subject and back again. After processing the film, it was digitally scanned, the resulting image is transferred into digital negative to be printed manually on silver gelatin paper, producing a shadowy materiality that documents the passage from photographer and subject, between digital and analog. Thanks for the generous collaboration of my lovely classmates: @jessiecunninghamreid @gu2815 @priyanamana @angus_hamra @caroline_mcgrath @gerglei_1.0 @casey_jenkins @marcela.vitol @marmadukelee #vca #vca_mcm #unimelb #melbourne #contemporaryart #darkroom #35mm #silvergelatin #ilford #printing #portraits #doubleexposure #ezzmonem #photography
