not extinct animals but still animal talk. There is an animal who we have done SO INCREDIBLY DIRTY worse than the thylacine i would argue. There is a beautiful deep sea fish known as Psychrolutes marcidus, of the family Psychrolutidae, which inhabits the waters of Australia and New Zealand.
This beautiful animal lives in incredible ocean pressures, about 3,500 feet below sea level. The pressure is 100 greater than the pressure at sea level. Why am i mentioning this? Because when you take them out of the pressure that THEYRE USED TO AND BUILT FOR, their body rapidly decomposes and their tissues explode which leave them looking like this.
I’m talking about “blobfish”. This picture is of a fish that was went through rapid pressure changes and had its tissues explode and decomposed. This is the disfigured corpse of a regular looking deep sea fish. I think that it’s disgusting that we’ve taken this 2003 image of a dead disfigured animal and turned it into a fad. You can buy your kids squishmallows or build a bears and get them jammies with an inflated dead animal on it. How cute! How silly and fun! Let’s go pretend that this is how the animal really looks.
Anyways. This is the regular psychrolutes marcidus. And i think we should try depicting them as this animal instead. Pls
