Do A Moonlight Flit (baekseo drabble)
Out of the corner of his eye, Baekhyun discreetly observed the slender figure who stood by the window of his dorm room. Light auburn short hair spilled on her back as she passively watched a group of boys outside, on a rush.
He noted the black cotton nightshirt that ended on her knees, pink leg warmers and the fluffy slippers she all wore that night. More often, sheâd put on PJs which all looked like they belong to a seven year-old girl rather than a senior from his university. At times, she would use long silky traditional nightdresses that trailed on the grounds sheâd walk on as if she was wearing her grandmaâs nightwear.
âI donât understand you at all.â He muttered, a pretentious scowl visible on his face. For the first few times that she went there, maybe he was indeed irritated. But currently, he wasnât really that sure anymore. He felt almost nice whenever she dashed at his place during night times.
The slender figure, whoâs feminine in all angles, tilted her head to show a lopsided grin plastered on her face. The moonâs rays glowed at the exposed side of her beautiful face and he could see the fair complexion of her skin.
âThe feeling is mutual.â She responded, the gentle voice caressing his hearing senses. She pertained to how Baekhyun carelessly flipped the pages of the book he probably had read for the fourth time already.
Baekhyun looked away, a blush creeping its way to display his embarrassment. Of course, he didnât want her to know that heâd only do that because her presence made him feel fidgety more frequently.
âWhy do you have to hide here anyway?â He knew the question would be left unanswered but still, he wanted a diversion. He had to chase the unnecessary feelings away, that fluttered inside his chest every time heâd have an eye contact with the woman a few meters in front of him.
âDonât you want me here Baekhyun?â She countered, giving him a question instead.
âY-you donât respond a question to a question.â He stuttered, looking anywhere but her. He heard her close the window blinds which then made his room even darker. The small conical lampshade beside him was a little dim, perhaps because itâs an old one.
âSo you do or you donât want me here?â Now, her voice a bit tighter, posing another question at him.
âThatâs not the point okay!â He snapped, glaring at her through the blackness. And he knew she saw him because she lifted a perfectly-shaped eyebrow at him.
Silence draped over them and Baekhyun almost admitted that he wanted her there, in his room, every night. Good thing she spoke first and saved another shameful confession from him.
âLetâs just sayâŠIâm doing a moonlight flit.â She answered, using an idiom. She leaned on the desk by the window, crossing her arms in defense.
He knew that such gesture indicated that sheâd unravel something, hopefully the reason why she started hiding at his room, for a few hours, almost every night.
Since Baekhyun was an aspiring writer like her, he knew what the phrase meant. But that wasnât exactly what caught his attention. He knew her not only as a senior in his university but also as a friend with the same interest in various literary works.
Since the woman was spectacular in writing both non-fictional and fictional pieces, she became his supervisor and inspiration. He belonged in a writing club in the university, and was kind of well-known already. But it was all because the woman looked and checked through his articles. Heâd always ask for an advice from her. Her guidance was always effective.
Unfortunately, she was forced to take a course she didnât really want. Sheâs the only daughter of two professionally successful parents. And he might be the only one who knew about that.
âRunning away from a debt? But youâŠarenât poor.â He finally said, thinking that she was even financially richer than himâthe fact that he could afford the dorm without the need of a roommate who could pay half of the expense, considered.
âMy parents are very wealthy, more than able to provide me luxuries even.â She corrected as if he had committed a serious flaw in English grammar. âBut IâŠI am nothing but a poor filial daughter. And definitely a surviving writer, you know, the dirtiest secret I ever have.â She sarcastically remarked, rolling her eyeballs at the same time.
âI always use my own money when it comes to too personal stuffs. I want to publish at least a hundred copies of my novel and my own cash canât be enough to the publishing company I have chosen. There are definitely cheaper publishers out there but I want the best for my first time.â She dramatically shrugged.
âAh.â Baekhyun acknowledged, even the reek of independence and pride from her words.
âYes, ah.â She grinned again.
Stillness wrapped around them once again and Baekhyun could only hear their soft breathings. He pushed his eyeglasses up to his nose again.
âI do, SeohyunâŠâ He quietly spoke. The two of them were past the formal stage but he wasnât daring enough for that. Until, practically, now.
He felt her frown at him, definitely not at his sudden informal statement. âI do what?â She asked.
âI doâŠwant you here.â He looked up to her, answering her previous question.
And Baekhyun swore, even amid the lack of light, that Seohyunâs cheeks went rosy from being pale.
He just smiled to himself at that.
A/N: baekseo, everyone! the idiomatic expression "do a moonlight flit" means "to leave somewhere secretly at night, usually to avoid paying money that you owe" LOL Anyway, moonlight is such a cute term for baekseo. right? (moon = seohyun and baekhyun = light)
