We know the MXTX Epic Journeys Big Bang is running at full speed but we wanted to still open our monthly Exploring Tropes event for people who want to participate in events but not the BIG ones!

There are no sign-ups needed for this. People who have been around for a while know the drill.

We give you a trope to focus on for a month, you write on the trope, we make a masterpost linking all of your fics and add them to our Exploring Tropes Ao3 collection. Tag us on Tumblr/Twitter whenever you publish something based on the trope so that we know what to add to our Masterlist.

All we request is that you follow our blog's theme and keep the characterizations as close to novel canon as possible!

CREATURE/ANIMAL TRANSFORMATION

We're doing this in honor of MERMAY. Wanna explore vampire LWJ? Mermaid WWX? Unicorn XL? or tiger shifter WWX?

(btw, we are tentatively opening the smaller events to accept TGCF fic as well. Not SVSSS yet.)

This is the time to let your creative juices flowing.

Now now, it may be tempting to fall back on the ever popular dragon LWJ and fox WWX trend but we encourage people to explore beyond that. (We will still accept dragon and fox WX)

The event is simple-

1. We announce the trope on the first of every month.

2. You create as much or as little content as you like. There is no minimum word count or anything required.

3. There's no need to sign up or even join our Discord for this (though we do encourage you to)

4. You can publish your work anytime during the month but tag us at Pocketful AND add the fic to our collection.

5. If you want to be featured on our Masterpost, please publish your content before 27th of May. It is best if you submit them to our Ao3 collection because it can be difficult to track Tumblr tags and sometimes we can miss things.

6. You can submit your work to our collection at any time, even we move on to the next month's trope. The idea is to have all trope fics in one place.

7. This time we aren't going to make a post of fic recs, only the content written.

Anyways, a new month means we have a new trope for you to experiment with! This time, it is-----

OPPOSITES!

So, what do we mean by opposites? We mean we flip something in the canon story and make it opposite. Want examples? How about-

LanWWX and Jiang disciple LWJ?

GhostKingXL and Heavenly Official HC?

LWJ chases and WWX silently falls in love?

You have free reign. You can flip anything in canon and try to make it make sense. You can even write 'bottomji!' Just try to keep it in character as much as you can because that's the challenging part of this trope!

Ah! Our very first Exploring Tropes Event! So exciting! We’ve decided to start off with a bang with one of the most popular tropes in this fandom, or any fandom tbh, and that is:

Time Travel

Who doesn’t like a good time travel fic? We’ll spend an entire month collecting all of the fics you write or recommend and feature them at the end of the month in a masterpost. There are two parts to this event:

Part 1 - Fic Recs

You can keep recommending regular fics outside this trope, but if you know some good time travel fics that fit our blog’s purpose, send them our way. We’ll accept submissions throughout the month. Please try to send them by 25th of September so we have time to prepare our post!

Part 2 - Fic Writing!!

There can never be too many time travel fics, don’t you agree? Maybe fic writers need a bit of a nudge in that direction? This is a month-long event and you can write anything you like - oneshot, drabble, long fic, anything! The topic is time travel in all its forms, whether it is a fix-it, modern AU, divergence or more. Let your imagination fly free and put pen to paper <3

However, if you can’t think of any ideas, we have a few prompts that you can try out. Remember, all fic submissions should fit the theme of our blog.

Prompts

Wei Wuxian accidentally/on purpose travels back in time and decides not to join the Jiang Sect.

Wen Qing travels back in time and decides to save the people she loves.

Wangxian travel back in time and their blissful domesticity shocks everyone.

Post-canon Wangxian travel back to Wei Wuxian’s Yiling Laozu days and decide to do things differently.

Wen Ning accidentally/on purpose travels back in time to save Wei Wuxian by choosing not to save Jiang Cheng.

You don’t have to write these prompts, they’re just here to give writers a nudge. We’ll welcome all kinds of time travel fics that fit our blog’s theme.

About this Event

We announce the trope on the 1st and take both fic rec submissions and fic submissions. If you’re a writer, love the trope, and want to create a new fic on it, feel free! You can explore it to your heart’s content and can submit the work by the 25th September. We will add your published story to our trope post and Ao3 Collection.

Our first event was such a success! We had so much fun with it and got so many excellent time travel fics out of it. It is time to announce October’s Exploring Tropes theme! And since it is October, our theme is:

Porn Without Plot

Wangxian is a kinky couple, October is the month of Kinktober so this is a match made in heaven. We even have our own PWP MDZS Kinktober List. You don’t need to write a fic drabble or short fic every day but you can if you wish to. We have kinky prompts for every day of the month (except for the last one but we’ll be doing something extra special for our boy on his birthday!) You can write fics on one or two prompts in the list or explore them all.

Remember that the fics should fit our blog’s theme. Also, don’t break up the main couple.

Because the theme is PWP, this month’s event is restricted to people above 18 years of age. Obviously, we can’t verify people’s ages so we will count on you to self-regulate here.

This event has two parts:
