Back with another mini-review today as fellow cereal enthusiast @butcheredtongue recently left me an incredibly intriguing ask suggesting substituting the milk in a bowl of previously reviewed Crunchy Nut Bites for almond cold brew. Besides my past dalliance with Milk Squash, I haven't really experimented with alternative liquids in cereal before. I stick pretty firmly to lactose free cow milk and surprisingly the thought of making a change to another option hadn't crossed my mind before. I've previously written a whole review bemoaning the lack of coffee cereals, so this struck me as a perfect way to add that much desired coffee flavor to places where it's lacking.
The almond cold brew I used in this bowl of Crunchy Nut Bites was mocha flavored, which I was initially concerned about. Would the chocolate get in the way or over complicate the bowl? I needn't have worried, as no one could have predicted, adding chocolate to something that's already sweet and nutty only improves it exponentially. The coffee itself was an incredible pairing, the slight bitterness alongside the Crunchy Nut Bites hazelnut paste filling transforms this into a much more nuanced and complex bowl. It was a cereal for my adult taste buds, while still being deliciously sweet. It made for a fantastic and decadent breakfast. I might start trying some more milk substitutions as a result of this, so if anyone has further ideas let me know! As long as it's not orange juice, we all have our limits and I think that might be mine.
