Emptiness. That's what she felt. Everything was going so wrong. This soon into her return, she was already wishing she had stayed back home. The guns, the deaths, the satanic stuff; how could all this be happening. She had come back to escape one of her fears just to be faced with another one. Loneliness and death; these two things were always so prominent all through her life. From a young age, everybody around her pretty much died or disappeared from her life. There was not one constant person, and the closest to that was probably Kieron, and even then, they had stopped living close to each other right after that summer in camp. The only person who remained with her for 18 years of her life had been her dad, but he was gone for almost a year and he had been distant even before then. Now Damien was dead, she had lost people she loved and she seemed to always be alone. She had friends here, she had more than just one or just her dogs but even now she felt like she had no one. On top of that, people she cared about were going through a tough time with the recent event, and she didn't know how to handle that or how to help them. Useless and alone.
Victoria had played the events in her head for the entire day. She remembered everything so vividly, and she hadn't slept at all since they happened. How could she, after all? She didn't want even worse nightmares than she already had. Besides, staying awake had always been easier for her than sleeping. And so she did. She stayed up, staring at wall, not doing much or moving at all. It wasn't until she began to get so hungry that her body couldn't take it. She built up the courage and got up from her bed to walk out of that room, that figurative prison where tons of nightmares had already been dreamt and waking-ups in the middle of the night had taken place. This would just worsen them.
Victoria opened the door slowly, the door screeching as she did so. She looked around but there was no light, no sign of people. She guessed they were all in bed, trying to forget or trying to sleep or maybe all at once. Her fingers search for the light switch until they found it, and the kitchen was lit up in an ugly shade of yellow. She took a deep breath, extreme fear coming out of nowhere filling up her mind. She walked over to the pantry and grabbed a couple of cookies and put them on a plate before she walked back out after she had turned off the lights, but she accidentally bumped into someone she hadn't seen was there and her plate dropped along with the cookies, making a loud noise, causing her to jump and feel terrified.
