More credible spokesmen for MH370 updates needed: Segambut MP
A DAP lawmaker today urged the government to appoint more credible spokesmen for authorities involved in the search and rescue mission for missing Malaysian MAS flight MH370.
Segambut Member of Parliament Lim Lip Eng said this was to prevent embarrassment caused to the nation by foreign media which had begun slamming local authorities over contradictory reports.
“We even had a bomoh brought in to locate the plane. This is ridiculous and embarrassing,” he said, during a press conference in Parliament today.
“This will irritate the family members more. We have an intense situation at hand.”
When asked what qualifications the spokesmen should possess, Lim said: “Anyone, as long as they are qualified and English-speaking.”
Family members of a few passengers aboard the plane had yesterday urged Malaysia Airlines and authorities involved to search for the GPS location of their families’ and friends’ handphones after claiming that they had successfully placed calls.
Today marks the sixth day after the flight went missing. The search for the missing plane has been expanded in the South China Sea and the Straits of Malacca.
Japan, Brunei and India have now joined the multi-national search group to track down the plane. The aircraft went off the grid not long after it was reported to have departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 12.41am on Saturday, en route to Beijing, China.
