âSaw your requests were open and since there is a serious lack of Yixing scenarios/fics: can I request a Yixing au thatâs kind of a missed connection fluff? Like your either coworkers or work in the same building/company and have mutual friends but have never met. But your mutual friends think youâd be perfect for each other and try to set you up somehow since youâve managed to never meet otherwise... is that like, way too specific? đ adjust as needed! Fluff though pleaseâ I run from angst lol
I will bring the Yixing fluff of course! I havenât written for him in a while (since I write for so many) but I hope you like it!
Genre: Office!AU/Soulmate!AU
Pairing: Yixing/Lay (EXO) x Reader
It had been yet another odd week on top of an odd month that was already part of an odd year.Â
You had been working at your company for years now but, ever since March, something had felt different. Friends kept telling you it must be your soulmate bond acting up, but considering it was now December and you still hadnât met them, you were more inclined to think you were just making things up.
Oh the soulmate bond? Let me explain.
Really the soulmate bond was something that couldnât easily be defined. It was different for different couples. Some people suddenly learned to speak in another language, allowing them to communicate with their other half. Some people had dreams of what their soulmates saw, leading them to travel to other parts of the world. Some had birthmarks that matched up. Some could hear it in their personâs laugh or voice. The thing that made it special was that you didnât realize it until it clicked.
And your friends and coworkers were convinced that your weird heart palpitations had to do with your soulmate. Which you might have believed, if only you had met them soon after they had started off. Really at this point you just kept spending unnecessary money on doctorâs visits.
With the year-end scramble to finish up projects at work, youâd almost completely forgotten about keeping an eye out for a soulmate. You were so busy, you only ever felt your heart pick up when you were in the stairwells or elevator for the most part, leading you to believe you just needed to go to the gym more often.
Your coworkers still teased you though.
âWhat if itâs John from Accounting? Want me to call him over?â
âYou know what I totally bet itâs that one repeat client. He probably feels it too which is the real reason he keeps finding excuses to come to our department.â
âWhat about anyone from the coffee shop across the street? I know they make deliveries here sometimes.â
âGuys!â you yelled, putting your sandwich down. âFor the last time itâs not because of the soulmate bond so itâs no one around me! Can we just drop it about the bond already?â
Your friends just rolled their eyes at you and kept eating until one of them, Trish, spoke up.
âYou know, if itâs no one youâve met then it canât hurt to go out with someone, right? Jongdae on 17 has a coworker and we were talking the other day and think the two of you would hit it off! Soulmate bond or not, it canât hurt to meet him, right?â
âI donât know. Itâs the end of the year, Iâm always exhausted from work, and I just bought a new fluffy blanket which is close enough to a boyfriend, right?â
âY/N as much as I love a good blanket that is not how that works.â
âWell it should be!â
You thought theyâd dropped all the date talk after that, but as you guys were getting back in the elevator, Trish tried again.
âJust think of it as dinner out with a few friends. I mean you hang out with Jongdae and I all the time, whatâs one more person? Plus Iâm willing to bet you were just going to scrounge something together for dinner, so itâs guaranteed to be a better meal.â
The doors closed and you were about to answer her when you felt it again. You grabbed at your chest and put your head down, taking a few deep breaths. Itâs not that it hurt, but you never could get used to it. Your heart would just pick up and youâd say itâd swell with hope and love if that didnât sound so cheesy.
Trish patted you on the back as you waited for the elevator to stop off on 20 so you could get off. As everyone walked back to their desks, you stopped Trish and told her to text you the time and the place, not hanging around long enough for everyone to hear everyone âoohâing at you.
-
You had just enough time to run home, change, and freshen up before you were supposed to meet everyone at the restaurant. But when you got out of the cab out front, you had to pause because you felt it again.Â
This was the first time your heart had acted up outside of your office building. And come to think of it, it had been happening more frequently lately. Maybe you should go to the doctor again...
Realizing it wasnât going to subside just standing around, you took a deep breath and headed inside the restaurant to distract yourself from it.
You had texted Trish when you were pulling up and she was waiting for you at the front.
âYou wonât regret this I promise,â she beamed at you, pulling you along by the arm to the table.
You felt your heart picking up and it was actually starting to become a little uncomfortable. Maybe it was the normal palpitations plus the anxiety over a blind date?
When you walked up the table, Trish sat down next to Jongdae and gave him a kiss on the cheek. He was slightly distracted, asking a guy who had his back to you if he was okay. It seemed liked he was grabbing at his chest, reminding you that you were actually doing the same thing.
Trying to act normal, you pulled out your chair and sat down.
âY/N, this is Zhang Yixing. He works on 17 with Jongdae.â
You turned to say hi when you locked eyes with him. And remember how you didnât want to be cheesy earlier? Well you couldnât help it now.
Your heart, which had been picking up more and more as youâd sat down, had now gone totally calm. (I mean not too calm, because you were face to face with an incredibly handsome, dimple-smiled man). It was like your heart, which had been trying to tell you something for so long, finally didnât need to anymore.
You could vaguely hear Trish and Jongdae excitedly talking to each other, but you couldnât pay enough attention.
âHi,â Yixing said, moving his hand from his heart to reach out to yo. âIâm Yixing, nice to finally meet you.â
And at that you couldnât help it but to smile your biggest smile as you reached back and said âIâm Y/N, nice to finally find you.â

This week is Boyfriend Material Week! Each day Iâll put out a one-shot with one of my favorite idols - each day picking someone different. Who will be boyfriend material tomorrow?
Genre:Â nonAU
Pairing:Â Yixing/Lay (EXO) x Reader
Y/N: Aren't you supposed to be in a meeting? Why are you texting me??
Yixing: Because you're about to be asleep and I won't be able to talk to you later, now where do you want to eat once my flight gets in?
Y/N: I want noodles đ
You'd sent him the noodle message knowing he'd struggle to keep the smile off his face in his meeting and wanting to tease him as punishment for not paying attention.
It had been seven months. A long seven months. You had met Yixing when you had been transferred to your company's new office in China temporarily to do some on-boarding. He'd been trying to get some food with friends and you were coming back with takeout - which had gone everywhere when you ran into him.
He had been surprised at your reaction. It was clear you'd recognized him, but you didn't want to make a big deal about it. You had just said "sorry" and tried to gather your food, only to realize the boxes had opened and thrown the food everywhere. You had taken a deep breath and started cleaning it off the street when Yixing bent down to help you and offered to buy you new food. You tried to say no, but when he said he knew a good noodle house around the corner, and you were really hungry, you had finally agreed.
You had become pretty close friends by the time you were scheduled to fly back home to the main office. Once you were apart, the calls and texts had picked up, until one video chat night he'd said he couldn't wait until he saw you again and had asked you to date him.
And you'd been together ever since.
Well, as together as two work-a-holics in different parts of the world could be. It took a lot of effort, no surprise there, but you think you both realized how well you fit together and that it would be worth it in the long run. No one could make you laugh and smile like he could, and you'd like to think it was the same for him.
Neither of you could take the separation anymore, so Yixing had started making plans to visit you. He was going to do work and meet with some companies while he was here, and you were making sure you wouldn't have to travel during his couple weeks with you. You even scheduled a few days off so you two could go to an amusement park and the zoo.
You honestly had no idea how you got any work done in the week leading up to his visit. He sent you tons of pictures of what he was packing, constantly asking if he had everything no matter how many times you reminded him that as long as he had the essentials you could always pick up anything else. You had to veto him bringing movies, which of course you had, and even a sheep pillow, which you also had.
He was also texting you nonstop, saying things like how excited he was to hold you in his arms for the first time. He kept making lists of everything he wanted to do while he was here and sending them to you too. Some of the things were so cute like making pancakes with blue and green food coloring for fun. Some of the things however, were not so much cute as they were not safe to read when you were at work, like exactly how he wanted to spend your evenings. These particular messages never failed to make your cheeks turn red and remind you, as if you could forget, that he wrote his own songs and he definitely had a way with words.
You didn't sleep at all the night before his plane was scheduled to come in Monday morning. He had long gone radio silent since his plane was already in the air and as much as you knew you should sleep so you'd be wide awake when he landed, you couldn't turn off your mind.
You had been dating for awhile now, but the last time you'd seen him in person you had just been friends. Yes you saw each other through video chat at least once a week, but that was different.
On top of that, he had told his fans months ago that he was seeing someone, but no one knew who. He'd only said she wasn't a star and he hoped everyone would allow you two your privacy for the time being, which they actually had. But you were picking him up at the airport and you were sure cameras would be there. You both had come to terms with the fact you couldn't keep it a secret much longer, but now you were second guessing your reunion which would be very public.
You must have run through countless scenarios by the time you heard your alarm going off, telling you to shower and get ready to get Yixing from the airport. After standing in front of your closet for longer than you'd like to admit, you settled on jeans and a fluffy sweater. That way you'd be presentable for photos, not that you were planning to pose for any of them, and you were prepared for the weather which was starting to cool down even more.
Pulling your car into the short-term parking pad, you took deep breaths and checked your hair and makeup before draping your purse across your body and grabbing a pair of sunglasses.
You heard the fans waiting outside before you even made it to Yixing's terminal. Luckily, he had told you what to do. He'd called ahead and told the terminal guards who you were and had given them a picture so they'd let you in past the gate holding off the fans.
The fans started whispering as soon as they noticed you getting let through, but you tried to just block them out. Today was all about seeing Yixing again. Your heart was racing as your slow breathing techniques began to fail. Your hands were sweating, and you couldn't stop pulling at the hem of your sweater.
Out of the corner of your eye, you saw more fans realizing you were standing separately and pulling out their phones to take pictures of you. You turned away, hoping to hide your face behind the veil of your hair so you could have a few more moments to yourself.
It was while you were trying to calm your heart that you heard the crowd start screaming.
But you couldn't make yourself turn around.
You'd thought of running into his arms, or even him running into yours, because it's Yixing and that's also entirely plausible. However, apparently your feet weren't thinking along the same lines.
You were too nervous to see him again. You couldn't move, let alone simply turn your head to catch his eyes.
You were in the middle of figuring out how to make your body move when you heard a bag drop behind you and all of a sudden two arms were wrapped around your shoulders from behind.
"You aren't even going to say hi?" he whispered, obviously sensing your anxiety and trying to put you at ease.
You reached up and grabbed his arms, pulling them away from you just enough so you could turn around to look at him.
Smiling up at him, you whispered "Hi" with tears shining in your eyes before tucking your arms around him under his jacket and burying your face in his neck.
He pulled you as close as he could while the fans screamed and the cameras went off. You didn't care about any of those anymore though. He was here, you were in his arms, and everything felt just as right as it always had.
