As an exorcist, they're not something to mess with since you never know what you bring into this world. If ever encounter a demon, for your own protection wear a pin. Demons don't like pins since its sharp. Why else do exorcists wear these pins as you see us in the show/manga?
Sometimes demons would try to take any form to be as close to you but if something is not right about your love ones or even a stranger, take any sort of pin and stab them into the chest.
Don't believe me about how demons fear pins, look again how every exorcist wear pins especially father Fujimoto when he took his pin and stabbed himself to get Satan out of him. Of course most demons who are higher level would still go near you when wearing a pin but it's one of the best protection by any sort of demons.
Here's a true story about my great grandmother when she was young.
Where she lived was a gorgeous location and had a huge property. But the land was sacred and demons was always after that land. They tried everything to get close to her and claim the land. One day, she came across this man who she described to her daughter than pasted it down to my mother. She said that he was the most handsome guy she ever met but she denied him and stabbed him with a pin she wore and he disappeared knowing that she wouldn't fallen into a trap. Ever since when she stabbed him, all her families life were haunted by these demons that even my mother once told me when it was around night time she heard of what it sounds like someone was calling her name. Her eyes were closed when she was walking but moment she was near the voice, she turned back around and went back to her bed. That voice she heard was one of the demons trying to lure her away. Though sadly her own mother (my grandmother) sold the property sadly since the activities was getting too dangerous and they all moved on. But thank God for my mother was save otherwise I wouldn't be born.
