Iām not your Object
07/09/17
While writing these passages
I was approached thrice
In the park by strange men
Asking for my age, for just a few words.
One a seemingly obvious man of God,
the other two just looking for a willing female.
I wonder who was more deceitful?
A crime has already been committed
if your first words to me
are caused by how I appear externally.
I am like nature itself
once beautiful and untouched by man,
now burdened by otherās litter and
violated to another's end.
Beauty can be found if one is truly searching;
a cold, industrial wasteland if only glancing.Ā
I am not your object.
You canāt appreciate this polished architecture
altered to weather the tornadoes
and call it beautiful
if you havenāt seen the cracks
caused by previous storms
if you havenāt witnessed the repair
strengtheningĀ for futureĀ turmoil.
This is not your body
to objectify
. Desiring from afarĀ
Donāt approach me
for my outward appearances
if you havenāt seenĀ
. the inner turmoil
Donāt sit next to me
on this cold park bench
and enjoy the serenity,
if you havenāt joined me
. in enduring struggle
Donāt force me to suffer
your draining small-talk
and drive me away(literally)
and drive me more inward
ifĀ you havenāt first
. energized my revival
Donāt call me beautiful,
call me the wretched mess that I am.
Only then will I know
you are truly searching for beauty,
not just glancing at it
. from afar.Ā
