Why did you choose The Call to take on as your latest acting project? What drew you to the script and role?

"My biggest reason would be having a chance to play the antagonist. It’s my first time taking up the role and I’ve always wanted to challenge myself. I would also say, it was more of a push than a pull when it came to the role. I was very interested in the script right off the bat. The story was exciting and compelling. I enjoy a lot of horror movies so this was very much style. I was a little weary because it leans into a bit of what I’ve done on TV but still, it wasn’t something I had fully explored. That being said, I had naturally leaned towards the role of the protagonist because it was comfortable. Still, one of my friends pushed me to look at all of the roles and I found myself looking more into my character. From then, I told myself that I wanted to take up a challenge and then I found myself auditioning for the role and somehow, I actually managed to get it.“

How would you describe your role in the film?

"I’d say my character is mysterious when you first meet her. The audience doesn’t know much about her and neither does the main character. But through glimpse of the past and lies, you start to feel sorry for her and feel like she’s been wrong. You want to her to be saved. That being said, it’s what makes her the perfect villain because you slowly start to learn that she takes the concept of an eye for an eye very seriously and letting her into your life can be very deadly.”

You’ve worked on dramas before, but this is your first film. How did the experience filming a movie vary from filming a drama?

“There is a saying: ‘the more things change, the more they stay the same’. There are a lot of differences in filming on a film set vs. a drama set but I think I worried more than I needed too. With dramas, there’s a sort of pressure to get it perfect between airing dates and it can be even harder if it isn’t pre-filmed. The shots, technique and the method to a degree. With TV shows, you have to memorize quicker, you’ll revisit the same locations for various scenes and the biggest one is the time constraint. With movies, we filmed everything on location and then moved onto the next one. There was also more time to prepare for being in front of the camera. Still, I’d like to think that I managed to adapt fairly well.”

What concerns did you have while working on the film?

“I’d have to say that my biggest concern was… myself. I wondered if I would cause a lot of trouble with my lack of experience. I worried about each shot and how I could bring the character to life. I constantly asked questions and wondered if I was being annoying. I worried about dragging down my co-stars and I had to learn how to have faith in myself and trust that the people around me to tell me if I’m doing something wrong.”

Did you draw inspiration from any other sources in order to portray your character?

“Well mostly from other media forms and my seniors. I talked to them and staff that had experience with this kind of settling and genre. I managed to get a lot of tips on how to bring my character to life, how to show my character’s motivation and the like. I also went back to watch some of my favorite moments from film and TV, the ones that captured my attention and made my heart race. There was a lot of time spent studying acting in motion and reading as much as I could, as well the original version of The Call.”

What genre would you like to take on next?

“This is a hard one. I enjoy the genres I’m doing now because I personally love the genre  myself. That being said, I think I’d want to try out the romance drama or even a sitcom. I don’t know if I’d be up to challenge because I still have a lot to learn but I’d also like to play a historical role if I had the chance.”

Why do you think people should watch The Call?

"Well, if you’re someone who’s into the horror genre in general, I’d recommend it right away. It checks all of the boxes perfectly. Still, there’s more too it. The story line is a mystery and it doesn’t drag. There’s a large story and each new scene gives pieces to the puzzle. Once you think you’ve figured it out or you think you can trust a piece of information, it turns out to be false. It just has a lot of elements that keep you on the edge of your seat. If someone is interested in that, then they should take the chance and watch The Call.“

Do you have any other comments you’d like to make to your fans?

Why did you choose Hey Ghost, Let’s Fight as the next project to continue your acting career?

“I really enjoyed the story of Kim Hyunji and Bong Pal. It’s a fun and funny story and it has a lot of action. In my previous role, I was cop but there wasn’t a lot of action. From the start, this story had a lot of action. I also want to be able to experience different types of roles. Since this is the horror genre I’m able to challenge myself to do something new.”

Was there anything special you had to do to prepare for this role?

“Yes! For this role, I had the chance to take fighting classes. I can’t do all of my own stunts but it was really fun recording some of the fighting scenes. I also had to practice acting with the air? I don’t know if that’s a good way to put it but since we fight ghost, I had to work on interacting with the space around me so it wouldn’t look strange when the scenes went to editing.”

Hey Ghost, Let’s Fight is based on a manhwa. Are there any differences in acting in a completely original drama like He Is Psychometric and one with source material outside of the script?

“Maybe, once I act more I’ll find a big difference but right now, I don’t think so. Both are scripts given too me and I want to do my best no matter what. One small thing might be the cross over between people who are knew to the show and people who enjoyed the manhwa. I feel like there is a bigger weight when playing a character people already love, you have to do you best to bring justice to the character.”

What was the hardest scene for you to film?

“I think the hardest would be the last fight scene with the villain. There was a lot of running around and chasing, we had to stop and pick back up a lot to get different angles. Physically, it was the most draining portion to film. When it aired, I was pretty amazed at how easy everything looked, I think it was the scene I was the most worried about.”

What were the challenges of playing a role like Hyunji?

“One, pretending to be a ghost, playing a ghost is surprisingly pretty hard. I’d have to remember that certain actions and motions don’t work. I also think the confidence of Hyunji was something I had to work hard on capturing. She’s a very up front girl, sure of herself for the most part. I’m not that type of person so stepping into her shoes had been a challenge.”

You’ve acted in two paranormal dramas now. Is this a genre that particularly interests you or is there another genre you’d like to explore?

“You know I didn’t even realize it. I think I’ve placed Hey Ghost, Let’s Fight under horror but... maybe this type calls to me? Over all, I think it interest me but I do want to play different types of roles. My dream has just been to act so I don’t mind the genre as long as I can act. Still, I’m going to try and look for different roles as much as I can.”

Why do you think people should watch Hey Ghost, Let’s Fight?

“They should watch it because it’s a really fun drama. It has action, horror, romance and comedy. I think it has a little something for everyone. Everyone really put their heart into making this drama so I hope people take the chance and watch it.”
