Marina Cortbawi founded Resort wear brand @merlettenyc in 2016 in New York. Born in Sydney, Australia, and by way of Paris and London, she moved to New York and gained her professional experience working with iconic designers Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera. After completing courses in Fashion Design and Illustration at Central Saint Martins and the London College of Fashion, she launched her first collection during the summer of 2016. “The idea for the design for our piece working with the artisans of Al Sadu Society was to elevate one of our signature styles, the fine cotton tiered dress. A thin and lightweight handwoven graphic trim in black and white was designed as a joining trim sewn in between the tiers of this very voluminous dress. We love most how the natural variations in the handwork contribute to the charm of the piece. Since our first collection we have used traditional handwork and were pleased to be able to be collaborate with Kuwaiti craftsmen.
