Okay, no touching Chien-Pao. Deep breaths. When had she last felt this scared to treat a pokemon? Not recently. Not recently at all. But even for a legendary pokemon, that trap had to hurt. And worst of all, if it got infected, it would hamper the pokemon's ability to move and avoid being captured.
Staying calm is the first key of being an effective ranger. The second was to think of what was best for the pokemon.
"It's going to hurt a lot in a couple of days if you don't get it off. And you're going to likely get sick from it being on your foot. Would you let me take it off if I let you bite me while I do it?"
It was unorthodox, but it would show Chien-Pao that she means no harm. Plus, no one going to harm a pokemon as powerful as a legendary would dare offer their arm as a temporary chew toy to it.
