Ā Ā Ā I had a dream last night. Not a nightmare, but a proper dream - I canāt remember the last time that happened. It must have been years, now.
Ā Ā Ā I canāt say that it was anything particularly worthy of note. I believe that I was in Skyholdās library, though now I cannot recall if it indeed looked that way - Iāve learned to stop questioning the logic of dreams. I wasnāt alone - I know for certain that Dorian was there, and that we were alone, that the library was empty but for us. Surely a fantasy that could never occur outside of dreams, unless either of us cared to stay there until near dawn.
Ā Ā Ā We talked, though I canāt recall the topic - dream nonsense, most likely. What I remember is how he looked in the sunlight coming through the window, darker in contrast to its brightness - but his eyes were vivid, his eyes and his smile. I believe that I fell for that first; his genuine, unfettered smile, which so often seems to be reserved only for me. The first time he offered it to me, I felt as if the rug had been pulled from beneath my feet, and I did not know why, though in hindsight I was foolish not to. He smiles so often, and for so many reasons, but that one feels more real than any of the others, and it makes him look so young.
Ā Ā Ā I have yet to ask him how old he is - I suspect the troubles of his life age him beyond his years.
Ā Ā Ā Even in dreaming, I half expected him to fade away, or for him to turn into something monstrous before my eyes, as is typical when I dream. But he didnāt - he looked at me, and he smiled, and he leaned in to speak into my ear. In Tevene, I think, though that could have been nonsense too.
Ā Ā Ā And then I awoke, and the dream was real. The sunlight was coming in the hole in my roof that he still complains of, and he was there, shining, smiling. Murmuring something I didnāt understand, so soon after waking.Ā
Ā Ā Ā I had never thought to be so happy again. If the Maker smiles on me, I would wake up that way every day for the rest of my life.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Andraste preserve me if Iām wrong, but I think that the storm may finally be breaking. For years I prayed that it would, and then I stopped praying, but if this might be what He has been preparing me for - this purpose, this place, these people, him - then I might wait those years all over again if He asked it of me.Ā
Ā Ā Ā I donāt simply have to live - I want to. I truly do.
