How much does it actually cost to replace an EV battery in India?
If you've thought about buying an EV, you've probably also thought about this: what happens when the battery needs replacing one day? Is it going to be expensive?
Here's the actual range.
For cars, it's roughly ₹3.5 lakh to ₹12 lakh, and it depends mostly on battery size. Something like the Tata Tiago EV is on the lower end. Bigger batteries like the Hyundai Creta EV or Kia EV6 cost more.
For scooters and bikes, it's a different story altogether, ₹45,000 to ₹1.2 lakh. People usually assume it's the same as cars, and it's really not.
Now, the part that actually matters more than the price tag, most EVs today come with an 8-year battery warranty. Tata, Mahindra, and MG are even giving a lifetime warranty to first owners on some models. So for most people, this cost never actually comes out of their pocket.
Also, a battery doesn't just stop working one day. It loses a bit of capacity every year, slowly. A battery at 80% health still gives you about 80% of your original range. The car still drives fine.
