Maddie was on her way home from college. It was late, but it was finals season, so she had chosen to stay late in the library and get more work there. She didn’t live far from Columbia and it wasn’t too cold, while she usually took a cab, she decided tonight to walk to get some air after being indoors all day study. Her handbag was hanging securely by her side, the strap inside her jacket to ensure no one would try to take it, and her jacket was wrapped tightly around her. She wasn’t paying proper attention as she walked down the sidewalk, that when she bumped into someone it really knocked her off balance and she ended up facing the opposite way to where she should be going. “Oh!” She exclaimed as she finally caught her footing, “I’m so sorry, I wasn’t paying attention. Are you alright?” She asked, a weak smile on her lips.
