mm, some of the accidentally-inspired-by-christmas-painting? yeah?
Fen boosted the propulsion and swung herself into a loop, just because she could.
She should have tied her hair back. Maybe a plait. Or a bun. It was going to be tough to deal with.
"Shave it off," Hunt said.
Fen hadn't realised she was speaking. "It took forever to get it to this length."
Hunt didn't reply, but Fen could imagine their shrug.

in which the one and only phoenix of the mist worlds finds a new home after definitely not running away from her old one on account of the Changes
~~~
 She hadnât fled, is the thing, but she couldnât stand the pitying looks from her friends and family, those that knew her before she changed.
 Before she saved the world. Back when they didnât think sheâd lost anything.
 So sheâd left, but sheâd told them and maybe sheâd be back, but there were whole worlds out there where they didnât know who she was and what sheâd done.
 She flew through the Mist, its cold burning off against her wings. Chose a gate at random, dived through above the line of travellers waiting in line.
 Suckers.
 The world beyond the Mist was a sprawl of a city that petered out into fields as far as the eye could see. It was different from her home, and that was a delight.
 At the edge of the city was a tent, all white and red stripes, and vehicles parked around it. A circus?
 She dived, curiosity getting the better of her.
 There was a buzz of noise about it. Animals and people, all shouting back and forth, running between the tent and the caravans, setting up yet more tents and enclosures.
 There were creatures â Beast, really, with a capital B â that sheâd only ever read about in stories and folklore.
 Like she was now, really.
 She landed on a post by one of them that mostly looked like a horse with wings, a birdâs head, and talons on its feathered front legs rather than hooves.
 It cocked its head to inspect her with one bright eye.
 She folded her wings tight against her back and didnât quite meet its gaze.
 âIs that one of Fenâs constructs left lying around against?â said someone behind her. âI didnât think she was working on anything like this.â
 The creature clicked its beak, partially unfolding its wings.
 She turned her head to see a woman standing there.
 âOh, youâre not â Fen!â The woman turned to yell for someone.
 âIâm not a construct,â said the bird.
 âWhat are you, then?â To her credit, the woman didnât seem too startled by her talking.
âThe phoenix. Where isââ
 âWhat is it, Hunt? Iâm fine-tuning some really delicate â oh youâre a beauty, arenât you?â Another woman poked her head out of a nearby caravan, welderâs goggles over her eyes. âOh, youâre a real spark of genius, arenât you? I bet theyâre kicking themselves for losing you.â
 âItâs notââ
 âNo one made me,â said the phoenix. âExcept maybe I made myself.â
 This one jumped, pushing her goggles back into her hair. âWell fuck.â
 âIâve never heard of a phoenix sighting,â said the first.
 âOnly kidâs stories. Damn, and it was just out here?â
 The phoenix spread her wings, readying to take off. Maybe this wasnât a good spot for a break.
 âNo â wait, wait, sorry. Letâs start again.â The woman with the goggles held out her hands as if to stop the phoenix from leaving. âIâm Fen. This is Hunt. What can we call you?â
 The phoenix hesitated. Her old name was â not known out here, but if people came lookingâŚ
 It was also a name for the person she had been, not the being sheâd become.
 âSpark,â she said. âYou can call me Spark.â
 âDelighted to make your acquaintance.â Fen smiled. âWhat brings you to our circus?â
 âCuriosity,â Spark replied, folding her wings back in. âI donât remember the last time I went to the circus.â
 âWell, youâre in luck, my friend, because the Everrin Circus is the finest that travels the Mist.â Fen spread her arms to encompass it, bowing.
 Spark laughed.
 âWould you like a tour?â
 âArenât you fine-tuning something really delicate?â Hunt asked, sounding gently amused.
 âThatâs not needed until this evening.â Fen waved her off. âNow.â She held out her arm, which was wrapped to keep her sleeves tight against her wrist. âOr you can walk, but riding in style?â
 Spark hopped from her perch to the ground and didnât grumble as she barely came up to Fenâs waist. This new form was ridiculous.
 Hunt stayed behind as Fen led Spark into the chaotic noise and bustle of the circus.
 âWeâve only just pulled up here,â Fen said. âNormally itâs a little quieter of a morning, but this is also our first day here so itâs all the set up.â
 Spark craned her head to see what she could. âIt seems so chaotic.â
 âIt is. Organised chaos, but all the same. Youâre lucky to have found us here, actually, this is our last stop before entering the Mist again.â
 âYou travel it a lot?â
 âSure do. Which world are you from? We might have been there before.â
 âI donât know its name.â Spark shook her head. âBut it only recently joined the Mist.â
 âOh, wild.â Fen was silent as she thought that over. âSo â are there other Phoenixes there?â
 âNo, Iâm the only one.â
 âOh.â Fen fell silent as she led Spark nearer to the side of the big tent, down an avenue between the fabric of it and the ropes holding it in place. âThat must be lonely.â
 Spark blinked. âI â I guess so.â It wasnât that she hadnât considered it, exactly, but it was definitely something she hadnât been intentionally thinking about.
 âSorry,â Fen said. âDidnât mean to send youââ
 âFen!â
 âAsin! Fancy seeing you here!â Fen looked up, grinning and spreading her arms wide in welcome. âIâve made a new friend.â
 âAnd the drones for tonight? Are they â oh that is cute.â A woman â shorter and curvier than Fen, white and blonde and harried looking, a tablet in her hands â blinked down at Spark.
 âIâve never been called cute before,â Spark said, spreading out her train a little. âNot looking like this, anyway.â
 âFen?â The woman tensed, a crackle of electricity playing at her fingers. âWhat have you done?â
 âI â nothing!â Fen laughed. âAsin, this is Spark. Sheâs a phoenix from Off-World. Spark, this is Asin, my cousin.â
 â⌠Sorry,â Asin said. âYou said phoenix?â
 âYup. She can stay with us for a while, right?â
 Asin shrugged faintly. âSure, why not. Welcome to Everrin Circus, Spark.â
 âThanks?â
 âItâll take her a minute,â Fen said in a stage whisper. âNow come on, thereâs so much more to show you.â She ushered Spark past Asin. âAnd yes, Asin, Iâll get everything finished before opening.â
 Spark followed her, bobbing her head to Asin. She hadnât meant this to be ore than a brief visit, but⌠well, if they were going to be so welcomingâŚ
5. With Magic Thieves/Circus/Flyers? Is that the the right way to ask? (I don't know much about your creations despite following you, sorry)
yeah thatâs cool! I am,,, Bad at talking about all of them consistently (or like introducing half of them) lmao I donât blame you :)
 Thatâs three different groups so Iâm gonna answer for each and you can have more characters semi-introduced maybe ^^
 so five is go on a six hour road trip with (no car radio, you choose who drives), sit next to on a six hour plane flight, sit across from on a six hour train journey
 Magic Thieves (Skir/Elise/Skren/Millicent/Lisetta)
 Iâd go on a road trip with Skir but Iâd drive so I didnât necessarily have to focus on what heâs saying lmao. Heâd be good for history knowledge on everywhere we were driving to/past (Otherwise Millicent, who would pack us some excellent snacks)
 Sit next to... Elise on a flight, I think. Weâd probably just watch films the whole way and talk through them.
sit across from Skren on a train ride! Heâd be so excited to go fast and would be glued to the window the whole dang time. Lots of exclamations and heâd be so caught up in everything. Might get wearing, but I think itâd be fun ânâ possibly cute to indulge him
Circus (Asin/Miko/Ral/Shiver/Ice)
Asin would get so dang antsy in a car without music so uh maybe not her. Shiver, I think? Wouldnât feel the need to talk all the dang time but... well, I wouldnât trust her to not get us lost, so Iâd have to be navigator there
None of them are good with flights haha. Asinâs probably best but like sheâd music up and tune the heck out.
Miko or Ral for a train journey! Miko would talk with everyone around us and get distracted entertaining kids. Ral would probably crack out a deck of cards and win every game and claim heâs not cheating but yâknow.
and last but not least
 The Flyers (Ifernia/Saich/Miroth)
Iâd take Miroth on a road trip. Sheâd make sure we have plenty of rest stops and that I wasnât getting too tired driving etc. Many snacks, but probably healthy ones (as opposed to Millicent, who would be on baked goods all the dang way)
Iâd shove Ifernia in a plane just for the absolute delight in her affrontry (she has wings she doesnât need this but... itâs nice not to expend the energy she guesses)
Saich on a train ride? Weâd start off reading and then end up discussing whatever weâre reading in a semi-intellectual way
shove a number and three names/a character grouping in my inbox
